Have you ever had that moment where you want to watch a Netflix movie with someone in real-time and enjoy the moment? A moment where you both watch the same Netflix movie on one screen even when they're far and also have a conversation while you watch the movie?
Well, good news! I will share with you how you can have a NetFlix live watch party with your friends!
I introduce to you, Teleparty!
Teleparty which is previously known as Netflix Party is an extension that you can install in your browser to have your friends enjoy the movie you are currently watching by giving them the URL that Teleparty will provide. It synchronizes playback and has a chatbox on the right side of the page so you can chat with your friends while watching the movie. With that said, it only works on browsers as you and your friend will need to install the extension for it to work. Your friends should also have a Netflix account to join.
How does it work?
Install the Teleparty extension. Here's the link.
Pin it in your toolbar. It is located on the right side of your address bar at the end. Click and pin it.
Go to your Netflix account and play a video. Click on the Teleparty icon and check the "Only I have Control" and click "Start the party".
It should look something like this after you start the party:
Click on the Teleparty Icon to show the link to share to your friends:
Copy the URL and share it with your friends. Have them paste in in a browser on a desktop where Teleparty extension is also installed. If they haven't installed it yet, you can ask them to install it for free too! Now you can watch a movie together even when you are not really together! 😅
Pros and Cons:
Pros: You can watch a movie in real-time with someone. You can also chat with them while watching. You can pause, forward/backward, play as you wish.
Cons: Your friend should also have the Teleparty extension install in her browser and they also have to have a NetFlix account which makes it time-consuming for everyone to set up the movie for the first time.
I think this is helpful if you are all willing to take the extra measures to install the extension for the first time using it. It will be worth it though. This is perfect for lovers in LDR, for friends that are in each of their homes.
