The Dark Side of City of Light and Love - PARIS
Last Monday, I've posted here about Debunking the Myth About Hong Kong Living, where you saw the situation of the poor Hongkongers living unconventionally inside the metal cages. Another promising city has dark side hidden beyond it's walls. https://read.cash/@Jane/debunking-the-myth-about-hong-kong-living-b84cda3d. In this article, I'll gonna debunk to you the dark side of City of Lights and Love - PARIS.
**Paris**, the most romantic ***City of Love***, also populary known as the ***City of Lights*** for its dazzling boulevards and bridges fully illuminated the whole city. It's the most populous city of France and a global center for art, fashion, gastronomy and culture.
When you think of Paris, you'll think of Eiffel Tower too. Every couple that arrives in Paris wants to visit the Eiffel Tower. It's the center of attraction of the city and thousands of marriage proposals every year made at the Eiffel Tower. But what lies behind those romantic scenery, dazzling and glimmering lights is **côté sombre de la ville (dark side of the city).** Who would ever think, that a city of lights and love have squatters or homeless people?
Thousands of homeless migrants lived in makeshift camps in the streets and public parks of Paris’ north. Many migrants lived in temporary or communal housing, or on the street.
The number gradually swell over a period of weeks, and hundreds more are arriving each day. Most are Afghans with vague hopes of reaching Britain or getting asylum in France, while some wants to be with their families in Britain. They faced poor sanitary conditions and lacked access to basic medical care.
The migrant camp in the northern city of Calais, nicknamed the “the jungle,” housed more than 10,000 migrants. But was demolished by the government in 2016. The Jungle has become a gritty symbol of Europe's migrant crisis and has been a thorn in the French government's side.
The winter has been exceptionally harsh for the homeless and the issue is worse for women and children. Many of whom hide in parking lots and waiting rooms to escape a daily diet of harassment and violence. Paris is seen as an extremely tolerant city and generous in its offer of aid and social protection, but for the homeless, there is no safety nor Asylum for them.
In fact, begging is legal in the city, as long as it is not aggressive, it does not use children, and it does not disturb public order, or else you'll face a €38 fine. However there are incidents of the police shutting down and clearing tent camps. Until now, the number of homeless people of France is still a controversial issue. What the government do with the issue? The thing we do not know. The only question I have in mind right now, why accepts for migrants if they won't provide a comfortable place to stay? And for the migrants, why migrate to France if you know you will end up building a tent to live in or worse sleeping on the streets and at the parks? The meaning of the other and love have disappeared from their society. Without money, people do not exist. The indifference of the people is an obstacle that is difficult to overcome. The solitude of the homeless migrants can happen to anyone. The people of Paris need to understand that they just want a smile or a simple 'bonjour'. That can make a cold day not be hell for them. There is beauty in every corner of Paris, but the society has lost sensibility. Ideas have disappeared and money is making the society blind to love. ***JUST A REMINDER:*** ***If you're planning to visit Paris, better book for an apartment before you get there, or you might end up spending your luxurious vacation on a squat area. If you don’t speak a lick of French they’ll probably just hang up on you the minute you call to set up an open-house appointment.***

The migrant crisis is difficult. Everyone wants Europe. The world is in crisis. Everyone needs help!
They're dreaming big, yet they've just been dumped..
It doesn't seem like the state in france ever changed since even before the revolutions started. It's still the same prideful country somehow
Exactly.. money matter there as well.. if you have no money, you don't exist..
Indeed. That's why the cost of living there is also quite ridiculous but so is the rest of Europe somehow
and so as to apply for tourist visa there.. my dream to visit paris will always be just a dream.. lol
I still aim for Switzerland. I need to visit CERN and the Hadron collider before I die

All country have dark side. It may seem luxurious but with a hidden secret behind it's dazzling walls. Many aren't updates with the news worldwide, so I guess this genre of writing I chose is useful. 😁
