January 1, 2021
It's been a tradition in any place of the world to set New Year's Resolutions for the upcoming year. The last year brought so much uncertainty that people want to turn the calendar to the last page and jump headfirst into 2021.
Many people set resolutions in shifting to a healthy lifestyle, kicking the bad vices out. Some are setting goals of financial freedom, hoping to eliminate procrastination and impose good time management. Others want to strengthen the family bond, pursue their passion, and aim for a better life.
However, after a year, when the table turned upside down, and uncertainty appear on the center stage again, are resolutions still achievable? After a tough year, sometimes we put so much pressure on ourselves and even set unrealistic goals especially during the global pandemic.
There is nothing wrong with setting resolutions. But what makes it wrong is when you set it for an obligation or from a place of pressure. It is probably more useful if you will base your resolutions on your real-life and what is going on around you. If you want to set a resolution, take into considerations if that kind of change is truly realistic and reasonable. Because once we set a resolution or a goal and not meet it, we often feel more discouraged and stressed.
Aaccording to a Psychologist, sometimes that stress and disappointment can only make things worse. So instead of aiming for big changes, it is better to think in small incremental terms. We should be more aware of what we are doing and how they impact our lives so that we can make adjustments to move towards what we truly want.
Try to consider how this small adjustment can make your life better. Instead of focusing on how to fix what is wrong with our life, we should focus more on mindfulness, and release some self-criticism.
There are many ways that we can try to change our perspective in life, and even just being aware and grateful for the things that we already have that are stable. All are goals that can be attained only if we incorporate a positive mindset.
New Year's Resolution should be less stressful and should not loom over you. If you really want to set one, your resolution should follow the SMART (Specific, Measureable, Achievable, Realistic, Time-Bound) Goal setting.

Your Resolution Should Be Achievable
If you want to achieve something, make sure that your resolution is achievable. You should understand that resolution doesn't only apply in one month or so, but over the year. This will help you strengthen your expectations.
Track Your Progress
There are no things that are done in just a blink of an eye. Tracking your goal will help you put things in perspective. Patience and perseverance is the key to achieve the changes you want in life, even if your goal seems so far down the line.
Take one step at a time
It takes time to achieve the change that you want and your imperfections can't be completely overhauled in just one scoop. The best thing you can do is to tackle one issue at a time. Adjusting the bad behavior and changing them for a better life is a tough task and taking things incrementally is a good way. Always remember that it is not the extent of change that is important, but the process of acknowledging that change in life and working towards it is what matters the most.
Reward Yourself
People usually abandoned their New Year's Resolutions so quickly especially if they are hard to carry out. The best way to do it in order not to wither what you have started is to take a pause and get a heap of the bigger hurdles you take towards fulfilling your goal. Try to do something to accept the progress you have made.
Nobody makes a long-term commitment to change their life without encountering bumps and hiccups. Your way to your goal will always have difficulties and if there is something that obstructs you, stay in the course, and do not hesitate to seek help from people who are close to you.
Nothing is perfect in this world so perfection is unattainable. However, changes are constantly occurring, thus, allowing you to change for a better life. Setbacks, failures, obstacles, and all ups and downs are just part of your journey towards achieving your goal. Do not give up completely just for a single mistake or failure, have the determination to recover from your mistakes, and get back on track!
