How English gained status in global, will the Filipino language have a chance to be a global language?
English as the unassailable global language arises mainly due to the political and economic power of its native speakers.
Historically, it was British imperial and industrial power that popularized English around the globe between the 17th and 20th Century. The legacy of British imperialism has left a lot of counties with the language thoroughly institutionalized in their courts, parliament, civil service, schools and higher education establishments. Also, it has been largely the white people's influence in songs, videosand television, business and finance, technology; even drugs and pornography that has consolidated the position of the English language as it continues to reign today.
On the other hand, the chance of Filipino language to be a global language is relatively low since a) its native speakers does not really advance its usage and they often neglect the use of it, b) the authorities do not give a solid support to it evident with the CHED directive No. 20 excluding Filipino subjects in college, c) there are other factors to be considered which Filipino language is yet to fulfill such as the total count of countries using it as their first language, adopting it as their official language, and teaching it as their foreign language of choice in schools.
The intrinsic structural qualities of a language, the size of its vocabulary, the quality of its literature throughout history, and its association with great cultures or religions, are all essential factors in the popularity of any language. In the end, the quest of Filipino language to grow as a global language lies to the political and economic will of its speakers who should be decisive to put it in the global centerstage.
Hmmm. You should consider also, that English is for dummies.. Simple structure, multiple meaning for a word and grammar is somewhat childish, that can anyone understand and use.
So, do not forget, that before - no more than 20 years- people were of low education (alas, many are still) and remember that you have to use a language that can be used by anyone. Check the "OK" history. There are two major thought about it. The first is that this came from ancient Greece, as "Ola Kala" means everything is good. The second ad the most popular is that this came from "all correct". In a low educational version I would say "ol korekt)
Anyway
Let's talk in depth.. The language and the religion of any place on earth are a mirror of its history, legacy AND the way these people lived, how they feel, interact, fight a war or even how they love!
English is a simple language that can be used from anyone. Of course major political parties have been choose them over any other.
Oh.. I am from Greece!
