5. Vinland Saga 

With its release in 2019, Vinland Saga quickly took the anime world by storm. This Viking-era revenge story has had one of the best first seasons in anime in the past decade, leaving fans wanting more. 

The story features Thorfinn, a boy who is on a mission to avenge his father. However, Thorfinn is now on the same squad as the man who killed his father, so his mission is not as easy as he hoped it would be. To top the difficulties off, he is caught up in a war in England and has to face a lot of new challenges.  

Be sure to catch up on season one before the release of the second season, which is coming on the 9th of January, 2023.

4. My Hero Academia 

My Hero Academia is one of the most popular shonen series right now. The story is set in a modern world where the majority of the population has certain skills and powers. However, Izuku Midoriya is one of the few people without power. He is a huge fan of the heroes, and despite his status, he dreams of becoming one. 

One day, he meets All Might, the best hero in the world who plans on retiring and wants to pass his powers to someone. Luckily, he picks Izuku as his successor, and the boy’s dream is slowly but surely starting to become real. 

This show was released in 2016 and is currently in its sixth season.

3. Black Clover

This is another series on the list that is a part of the “best new-gen shonen” conversation. With its release in 2017, Asta and his friends quickly won over people’s hearts, and Black Clover became one of the best-loved new anime series.

The story follows Asta, a boy without any magic powers in a world that runs on magic. Despite this fact, he doesn’t feel discouraged and continues to train hard in order to get stronger and become the Wizard King. 

With his courage, determination, the support of his friends, and a special power of his own, Asta goes on a long journey full of challenges and strong enemies.

The show currently has four seasons, and an original movie is coming to Netflix on the 31st of March, 2023.

2. Jujutsu Kaisen 

Called a darker version of Naruto, Jujutsu Kasien’s first season didn’t disappoint. It showed the fans that they were in for an amazing journey. 

That journey starts with Yuuji Itadori, a normal boy living a normal life until he comes in contact with a strange cursed finger. This finger causes the appearance of cursed spirits that attack Itadori and his friends. To hold off the spirits, he eats the finger. 

However, this finger belonged to the demon Sakuna known as the “King of Curses” and despite giving Itadori powers, it starts to slowly consume him. The Tokyo Metropolitan Jujutsu Technical High School recognizes how powerful and dangerous he may become and takes Itadori under their wing. 

Here, he becomes a part of a squad where he trains to control the power and faces the dangers that come with it. 

1. Demon Slayer

The heartbreaking and inspirational story of Tanjiro Kamado became a fan favorite, and many consider it to be the best new anime. To make things even better, Ufotable Studios (Fate Series) took care to tell us the story with one of the best animations in the history of anime.

This anime starts when Tanjiro Kamado finds his whole family, except for his sister, killed by demons. His sister becomes a demon who is thirsty for blood, but she still has her human feelings. 

After this, Tanjiro goes on a mission to defend and cure his sister. In order to do this, he starts training hard, meets new friends, and becomes a demon slayer who will now have to defend many people—even from his sister—and fight some of the most powerful demons in the world.
