Lupus is a constellation located in the deep Southern Sky. Its name is Latin for wolf. Lupus was one of the 48 constellations listed by the 2nd-century astronomer Ptolemy, and it remains one of the 88 modern constellations, although it was previously an asterism associated with the neighboring constellation Centaurus.
Mythology of the constellation Lupus. There are two main possibilities in Greek legend as to who or what LUPUS, The Wolf, represents. The first is that it depicts a wolf speared by a centaur in readiness for sacrifice. This would appear to connect LUPUS to the constellation ARA, The Altar, which is close by.
The wolf constellation is located in the southern hemisphere, inside the third quadrant (SQ3).
