Envy is one of the most common and least understood human emotions. A feeling that is very common that we may not be aware when it's haunting us.

It is not very pleasant to feel this kind of emotion. It can cause a significant threat or damage to our close relationship with people or friends.

Envy and jealousy may come hand and hand, but it is important to distinguish between envy and jealousy. Envy is when we feel threatened by someone's status, while jealousy is when we perceived a threat to our relationship from a third party. Therefore, to remove the feeling of being envy, we must need to unpack our status.

We always think that life is a competition and someone can defeat us anytime, even our closest friends, or maybe we always think that someone is "better"than us that we must overpowered or surpassed. We always think that we must be on top.

To erase this kind of thinking we must looked at the available options. The simple option is to focus on our strengths or examine the areas where we shine. We may discover a good rapport that has nothing to do with the people whom we feel inferior. We must focus our belief to change our emotion.

We sometimes think bad things towards people whom we felt inferior, and we realize we are becoming a bad person. Rather than thinking we are a bad person, we may come to recognize that envy is a universal emotion. We must put into our mind that "Envy doesn't have to be a part of who we are forever", we can experience envy without losing our sense of self.

Remedies to Stop Feeling Envy

  • Complaining. Complaining only isolate other people and only makes us look bad. So we better stop complaining. We should be happy and accept someone's achievements and progress.

  • Putting other people down. As we feel envy, we somtimes looks for their flaws and weaknesses and critisize them. It can make us seem to be unfair amd unpleasant, so we should keep our criticism to ourselves.

  • Avoiding the target of our envy. We get aloof to people whom we felt inferior with. We try to distance ourselves to them. We shouldn't do it, instead we must get closer to them because we can learn from them.

  • Giving up. We sometimes felt that we can't get a step ahead and always remain behind so we think of giving up. Instead of thinking negatively, we must stick to our goals and focus on achieving it.

  • Ruminating. Ruminating only makes us feel depressed. Instead, we must accept our feeling and make the best out of it.

  • Critisizing ourself. Critisizing ourself or blaming ourself makes us feel worse. So we must be more accepting of the strengths we do have and work from what we had.

In conclusion, we know that envy is a universal emotion. It doesn't have to be the one who can prevent us our own fulfillment. We can reframe our envy as a desire to be our better self. It can be an advantage for our self - improvement.
