Do you William Shakespeare? Do you know his masterpieces? Do you know his invention?

I guess, everyone know who Shakespeare is. Who wouldn't know him? His great contribution to literature that will surely hook you up.

During my high school days, William Shakespeare was further introduced to us by my teacher in creative writing class. We read many of his literary pieces.

Who is William Shakespeare?

William Shakespeare is an English playwright, poet and actor and widely regarded as the greatest writer in the English language and the world greatest dramatist. He is often called England's national poet and called the "Bard of Avon". His extant works including collaboration is consist of 39 plays, 154 sonnets and two long narrative poems.

Shakespeare's Literary

Shakespeare wrote many poems and play which becomes famous even now. Universities are still hook with his piece and do some interpretation about it.

Some of his works:

Plays:

  • Hamlet. This is considered by many literary critics as one of the greatest play by Shakespeare. This talks about the grieving of Prince Hamlet towards his fathers death. Many critics thinks that "Hamlet" is based on Shakespeare's personal experience losing his own son, Hamnet in 1596.

  • Romeo and Juliet. This is considered as Shakespeare famous play due to its timeless - theme. This plays talks about the tragic love story of the two lovers from two families which are mortal enemies.

  • Macbeth. A short and intense piece of drama that chart the rise and fall of Macbeth. The characters in this drama was well - drawn and the plot of this drama is well - formulated. The one the character in the drama is Lady Macbeth who is the most enduring villain of all Shakespeare's plays. This crime drama was very populat that was inpired to all over 10 film adaptation.

  • Julius Ceasar. This play was actually revolved or talks about the Roman senator Marcus Brutus and his involvement in the assassination of the Roman Emperor Julius Ceasar. Critcs said that this play should have been called "The Tragedy of Marcus Brutus". The drama centers on Brutus conflicting morals and his psychological turmoil he weaves a conspiracy to transform the history.

  • Much Ado about Nothing. This is the most best - loved comedy written by Shakespeare. The play mixed with humor and tragedy and one most the interesting texts from stylistic point of view. The plays popularity rest on the love - hate relationship between the two characters. The two are locked in a battle of wits although they know that they love each other, they just can't admit it to each other.

Poems:

  • The Rape of Lucrece. This poem talks about a woman named Lucretia who was raped by the king's son amd comitted suicide.

  • The Phoenix and the Turtle. This poem talks about the death of ideal love. Some critics sees this poem about the relationship between truth and beauty. It describe the funeral arranged of the Phoenix and Turtledove who are symbols for perfection and devoted love.

  • Sonnet 20. Represents the Fair Youth as "master - mistress" of the poet's passion. The speaker in the poem proclaim that his beloved possesses a woman's physical attractiveness and the form of a man. This poem is one of the controversial poems written by Shakespeare for sereval reasons including its sexual duality and homoeroticism.

Shakespeare wrote 154 sonnets in sequence that were published in 1609. His sonnet addressed to an unnamed attractive young man who represents beauty, love, and praise.

Shakespeare's Invention

Shakespeares' contribution to English language does end with his literary works. His contribution in English language are very valuable as we all using his invention up to today's generation.

Shakespeare invented a total of 1,700 common words by changing nouns into verbs, changing verbs into adjectives, connecting never - before used words together, adding prefixes and suffixes, and devising words wholly original.

Here are some coined or adapted words invented by Shakespeare.
