How To Use Spam In A Sentence

What Is Spam?
SPAM canned lunch meat that many people love to eat. Probably everyone has eaten spam... except for the vegans of course. However, this is not the spam that I am going to talk about. Recently another type of SPAM is getting more visible on this platform. That's the kind of spam that I wanted to talk about.
Hello, spam lovers, I mean my read_cash family. For the third time now, I blocked another spammer account. Yes, spammers are on the rise on this platform. And that's the spam that I am going to discuss in this article and more.
As the title of this article indicates, I will also share some thoughts on how to use spam in a sentence correctly. Thus, I will discuss the following:
What is spam (in computer lingo)
Common threats that come with spam messages
Spam in read_cash and noise_cash.
Common misconception/misunderstanding of the word spam.
How to use spam in a sentence correctly.
What is SPAM?
In the world of computers, SPAM is defined as:
"Any kind of unwanted, unsolicited digital communication that gets sent out in bulk. Often spam is sent via email, but it can also be distributed via text messages, phone calls, or social media." - Malware Bytes
A lot of spam messages are seemingly harmless but are anoying, to say the least. However, some are used for the following undesired purposes.
Email gathering. Those seemingly harmless chain emails that contain a story followed by a threat that you will be cursed if you don't forward it to at least 50 of your contacts are possibly used to gather email addresses and sold to email marketers and scammers.
Scamming- Have you ever received an email from a "Princess" of an African country that seeks your help? This is a form of scam to get your bank information or worse steal your money.
Phishing - some of these spam messages contain phishing links. These links lead to a fake website designed to steal your bank or credit card information.
These are just some of the dangers that come with email spam. These threats are also present in the spam messages on various social media sites.
Common forms of Spam in read_cash and noise_cash
Read_cash and Noise_cash platforms are not spared by spammers. Although the type of spam on these platform sizes is not that threatening if left unchecked, it will reduce the quality of content and engagement on these platforms.
These are the common forms of spam in read_cash and noise_cash
One word comment - Comments, like 'Wow!', 'Amazing', 'beautiful', does not solicit any engagement, and can be commented on any content. If you keep posting such comments on one or both platforms, again and again, that is considered spam.
Copy-and-paste/ Unrelated comments. I think this is done mostly by members from countries that don't speak English. I once made a post about a content thief copied a post made by a friend and posted it as if it was his. Then a couple of these spammers comment something like "beautiful! I like this".
Ad-Spam. I started seeing this in the last couple of weeks here in read_cash. The user comments in my posts something about he/she earned thousands of dollars working from home. With a link to the work-from-home website. I checked the accounts. The account was created a few hours before the comment to my post was created. So far I encountered this type of spam three times on this platform. I automatically block the user. I will write more about this in a few days.
Common misconception/misunderstanding of the word spam.
Spam is an act of sending the same or similar message to several recipients. However, in my experience, I noticed a common misconception especially on paying sites. Some associate inaccurately with other unethical or even illegal online activities. Here are some of those.
Flooding- Flooding is then the act of sending messages continuously to a single receiver. Normally done within a short period. A simple example is sending a series of 'Hi', 'Hello', and other greetings 500 times in an hour. O,k 500 is too much. Sending one of such every minute in an hour or less can be considered flooding already.
Plagiarism/ Content Stealing - often I saw plagiarized and/or stolen content labeled as spam. Technically, they cannot be considered spamming unless they send the same plagiarized or stolen content to numerous users.
Tagged as Low-Quality Content or Plagiarists. I got confused at first when other users here in read_cash and noise_cash say "I got spammed!" It took me some time to realize that what they meant was they were tagged as a spammer or a rule violator.
Then again, it is easier to use the label "spammer" as a general term for those who violate the rules of a platform in various ways.
How To Use Spam In A Sentence.
Ok, this is a bit of a lesson in English and the technical term "Spam."
When you say:
"I got spammed."
The true meaning of this is you received a spam message. Then again this is not entirely accurate. Because technically spamming involves sending the same message to several recipients.
Another possible meaning is, that you received several messages from one or more senders continuously. This is technically flooding, not spamming.
The correct way of saying is:
"I was marked by the admin as a spammer!"
In Closing
As far as I know, there is no law against spamming itself. It may be legal, but it is not an ethical thing to do. I believe even if used in marketing. On the other hand, the content of a spam message can contain something illegal and can even pose a threat to your data security and your money.
In social media or any platform, spamming can take up necessary resources from a server. Just imagine, a 10 Kilobyte of the message sent to 50 persons 50 times over, is enough to eat up more than 1 GB of disk space or even higher.
So next time you see a spam message, the best thing to do is report it and then block the spammer. Then again, this may not be enough.
