The Column and Lumbar Pain Center is dedicated to the care of spinal diseases with an interdisciplinary team of professionals with special dedication and experience in the area.

The team is made up of neurologists specializing in the peripheral nervous system and electrophysiological studies, experts in Pain Medicine, neurosurgeons who bring together vast experience in spinal surgery and analgesic surgery techniques, and psychiatrists who collaborate in the emotional control of pain.

The team also has specialist spine consultants from the Favaloro Foundation's Orthopedics and Traumatology Service.

 DIAGNOSIS AND INTERDISCIPLINARY APPROACH

In the initial medical consultation, the patient's medical history is evaluated, he is examined, his previous studies are analyzed and others are requested if necessary.

Then, and whenever the case requires, the patient will be seen by pain specialists to assess their general condition and the way in which the pain affects them. The possibility of coexistence of other pathologies that may hinder or interfere with its therapy is also determined and drug treatment schemes are established. This will be modified according to the response and tolerance of the patient.

Kinesiology evaluation allows examining postural disorders that can cause pain. Based on the examination, treatment and rehabilitation programs are indicated.

The characteristics of pain may require the participation of a pain specialist psychologist to assess the problems that the condition produces in the person and the degree to which it influences their life. The psychologist will also indicate the necessary support measures.

In the neurosurgery evaluation, the different treatment possibilities (blockages, infiltrations, minimally invasive surgery, spinal stimulators, analgesic drug infusion pumps, etc.) are considered.

Finally, the Column Center team meets to elaborate the therapeutic proposals for each case, which then turns into a final report on the appropriate approach for each patient.

SPINAL PAIN: THE IMPORTANCE OF A GOOD DIAGNOSIS

The pain caused by diseases of the spine cause a significant deterioration in the quality of life and can even affect other organs.

In order to effectively treat these pains, it is first necessary to detect their origin, since they are not always due to a problem in the spine. Therefore, it is very important that the first step is to make a correct diagnosis.
