CLINICAL NEPHROLOGY (KIDNEY DISEASE)
The Renal Unit's Clinical Nephrology outpatient clinic is especially dedicated to treating kidney damage caused by high blood pressure, diabetes mellitus and cardiovascular diseases, as well as other causes (polycystic kidney disease, glomerulonephritis, congenital renal hypotrophy).
UROLOGY (DISEASES OF THE URINARY TRACT)
The Urology service of the Renal Unit attends consultations for different kidney and urinary tract problems: kidney tumors, kidney stones, polyps and bladder tumors, prostatic enlargements and tumors and congenital alterations of the urine excretory system.
 Most frequent reasons for consultation:
Hematuria (blood in the urine)
Proteinuria (foam in the urine)
Renal colic (kidney stones)
Upper and lower urinary infections (pyelonephritis)
Arterial hypertension
Alteration of acute kidney function (acute kidney failure) or chronic disorder (chronic kidney failure)
Glomerular diseases (glomerulopathies or glomerulonephritis)
 RENOVASCULAR DISEASE
The experience of the Favaloro Foundation has made it possible to detect that a large percentage of patients with coronary artery, carotid or lower limb disease also suffer from renal artery alterations, which can manifest with kidney failure or difficult-to-control blood pressure. Our institution has a Renovascular Diseases office that includes surgeons, nephrologists, hypertensologists and interventional cardiologists who make decisions about the most appropriate treatment (surgery or angioplasty with stent) for renal artery lesions (stenosis of atherosclerotic or fibrodysplastic origin).
 MULTIDISCIPLINARY APPROACH
The Favaloro Foundation complements the experience of nephrologists and urologists with its multidisciplinary team of professionals and the necessary infrastructure to carry out all types of studies, fundamental factors to arrive at the diagnosis of this type of pathology. Patients who require it may be evaluated through the Comprehensive Program for the Study of Cardiovascular Risk Factors (Metabolic Unit) or kidney punctures-biopsy with ultrasound control (Interventional Ultrasound). The study of renal artery diseases is carried out through non-invasive methods such as renal ultrasound with color Doppler (Ultrasound) and radiorenogram with captopril test (Nuclear Medicine) and selective renal arteriography (Catheter interventions).
