Tally Ho! The future is here!
I'll be honest: I found out that Tally Ho existed and that P0x had a contest running just a few hours ago thanks to my friend @PVMihalache.
I don't know if I had already told you before, but the reasons why I hardly write are several:
1. My child's real life and health problems take up too much of my time.
2. The red market affected me directly a lot. It is not easy to see how your cryptos lose value day after day against USDT.
3. The one that discouraged me the most to continue writing and that has to do precisely with the wallets, was that I lost $402 USDT that I had in my Metamask.
How is it possible that they enter my Metamask and in a matter of seconds I lose all my money? For me, it is a lot of money, and when I say a lot, we are talking about 9.2 months of work without spending a penny of that money. Obviously, anyone would feel overwhelmed in that situation. I remember I started to break out in a cold sweat. My wife couldn't believe it. They were very difficult days at home. They still are in a way. After that came the absolute mistrust of everything on the internet. Paranoia on a level he had never experienced. In each action I performed, I imagined that someone was trying to hack my accounts, including my favorite Exchange, even though it is protected with several layers, say email, password, 2FA code, other keys, etc. I prefer the Exchange, even though it may go bankrupt tomorrow, than someone stealing from me like this again. Even the other days they spent hours trying to get into my telegram and google account. I was receiving notifications and calls with the login code, constantly. Pretty scary really.
Then Tally Ho arrives and in less than 24 hours, before the contest ends, I have to research everything about the wallet, something that I take very seriously, in order to write something coherent and give my opinion as best as possible.
What is Tally Ho!
Tally Ho is an open source, community-owned & operated Web3 wallet. You can find its source code on GitHub. Since I'm a programmer, the first thing I did literally, even before visiting their official page, was to go to GitHub. How could it be otherwise, the README.md is a delight. Well explained in great detail, something that every software developer is infinitely grateful for.
Check the profile of several of its 32 contributors and at first glance the quality is noticeable. To give an example, many programmers would like to have the statistics that Henry Boldizsar shows in his profile, it is simply difficult to achieve. It takes talent, dedication, and thinking outside the box, thinking differently, something that very few manage to do today and that we need so much today.
Tally defines itself as a "Loyal friend", which you can have in Chrome, Firefox, or Brave browsers, depending on your preference. Personally, I really like Firefox, so I installed it on that one.
The installation process is quite simple and straightforward, without much hassle. After 4 splashes where they give an idea of what Tally Ho is and what they want, you arrive at the screen where you can Import an existing wallet or simply create a new one. Personally, I really like the visual interface. The colors are a delight and the design does not become very loaded and that is appreciated.
I selected “Create new wallet” and it immediately asked me to enter a password for it. Then it showed me not 12 words, it was 24. I liked this since it gives me a little more security against different future attacks. Obviously, write down the words on paper and leave no trace of them virtually. After verification of the words, enter the wallet for the first time. My impression was 10/10.
Doing a bit of searching on the internet, I found this tweet from Tally Ho, on December 20, 2021, where they announced that they would happily launch the Tally Community Edition that day. I read a little more and what I saw I loved:
“A couple of things to remember as an early user of the pre-launch release: Many of Tally Ho's features are still in development and may not respond as desired. This is a pre-launch release, so we recommend that you test responsibly with small amounts of crypto (not your life savings!).”
Today trust is very hard to come by. In addition, a lot of work is spent, I would say months and even years until someone fully trusts you with a large part of their savings. But it is curious how everything is lost in just 1 second if something seems strange or cloudy at any time. After the trust is lost, there is nothing else to do, it never gets back. Maybe that's why the "Loyal friend" is because if someone is faithful in this world, it is a dog to its owner, it is man's best friend.
Some of its main functions:
• In-wallet swaps
• Ledger support
• Advanced fee selection
• Standard wallet settings like connecting to Testnets or custom RPC
• Account management features - including seed imports from any wallet, account customizations, and seed reveals
Despite never actually seeing a Ledger physically (I don't think I ever will, since I just can't access one), I'm glad I got that chance. I have read a bit in other articles, and am very happy with it.
In the swaps section, “Tally Ho fee for the DAO 0.5%” catches my attention, and despite having less Fee than Metamask, this goes for the DAO. Just great.
I don't want to be a spoilsport, but there is something that caught my attention. Precisely in the swaps part, I am not able to find any token. Also, I have the feeling that my Tally Ho does not finish connecting directly with the ETH network. Curiously, the same thing happened to me in Metamask for a few months now. In order to access the ETH network, I had to use a VPN, since it never connected. Later I read the article by PVMihalache, which it refers to the fact that in Venezuela and Iran users reported that they could not enter Metamask due to connectivity problems, only in ETH. I told him that in Cuba neither. All this is politics, something that I like to talk about very little, but I cannot remain silent in the face of so much injustice. The US has blocked my country for more than 60 years simply for being Socialists, something that does not suit them. They put us on an arbitrary list as sponsors of terrorism, something that is totally false and for these reasons, we have to put up with all kinds of injustices in the virtual world and we are forced to use VPNs to access different services. Will the same thing happen to me now with Tally Ho? Can not be!
Security Audits
Without a doubt, something to keep in mind, and when they show you this directly, it fills you with confidence.
“The Tally Ho extension and smart contracts have been reviewed by the industry’s most respected security auditors.”
I read the 3 audit reports and they are quite rigorous in all aspects. This is just to improve and find possible bugs and their possible solutions in the code. The more audits, the better for everyone.
I will continue to investigate a little more. So far the impression I have is very good. Just remember that everything has a beginning, and that, in this case, it has been quite successful. I have full confidence that in a few more years, we will be in the presence of one of the best wallets, without a doubt, and that the dog will finally hunt down the fox.
