Hi everyone. Have you even looked up to the sky at night and wondered why the moon is usually split in half. Well each time I look up at the sky at night, I'm always filled with the memory of the childhood tale told to me by my grandma about why the moon usually appears in half.

When the new Moon appears, it is usually crescent-shaped. As Time advances and before the full moon it begins to increase in size before outlet and gets to its circle-shaped size. There's always an African folktale as to why this occurs. Well science always has it's facts about the moon but this is just a folk tale told for the purpose of fun.

The sun and the moon were once best of friends. Did it literally everything together. One day the moon decided to get an orphaned girl from Earth to be his house help. He was said to not be a good master. The poor girl was said to live in agony everyday as the moon maltreated her. She looked malnourished.

On the other hand, the sun was nice to the little maid. Each time the moon sent the little girl to the sun's house to fetch fire for him, the sun will always give the girl a piece of roasted meat. She would eat it his hastily before going back home to the moon.

After sometime, the sun came across another orphaned girl on Earth and decided to adopt her. He tweeted the girls so well that she looked so robust.

Every day when the sun and the moon would go out to work, the two children with play together. This was a way of keeping each other company. The orphaned girl who stayed with the moon soon began to get jealous of the opharned the girl that stayed with the sun. She decided to run away from the moon's house.

That day when the moon came back from his daily work of lighting the Earth, he could not find his little servant. He searched everywhere but she was nowhere to be found. He decided to go and complain to the sun. It was there that he discovered that day little girl had gone to stay with the sun. He was infuriated. Out of anger he picked a fight with the sun.

Let's not forget that the moon has no light of its own. He always borrowed the little light he used for shining from the sun. So when he picked a fight with the sun, the sun decided to collect it's light from the Moon thereby rendering him powerless. He only left a little light for him so he could not shine brightly. Out of anger, the moon hit the sun with a broom. This caused the light that the sun had to scatter around him.

In a bid to retaliate, the sun use the cutlass to cut the moon into two uneven parts.

It is said that theincident of the fight between the sun and the moon is what the word mostly as the eclipse.

After this incident, the sun and the moon became worst of enemies. They stopped working together. The sun will always come out during the day and the Moon will go into hiding. Because he did not have enough light, the moon will always feedback during the day to recharge himself before coming out at night.

This was why the moon became halved and did not have enough light to shine on Earth. The sun became extremely bright because he had taken away the brightness of the Moon and added it to his own.

This story sounds extremely childish but it was entertaining. Right? I do hope I was able to entertain you with this little folktale of mine. Go enjoy yourself and await more folktales from me.
