There's so many superstition and beliefs about the true symbolism of the broken mirrors. There so many unbelievable beliefs about it like it is a sign of misfortune or you'll having a bad luck for your whole life.
The mirror is a reflective surface that form an image by reflection, it gives a true image of a person or a thing.
In our country we believe that if you have a broken mirror in your house you need to throw it away and don't use it anymore because it is a sign of bad luck to the owner. They say that the whole mirror is the representation of your life and if gets broke it's like that your life might get broke too or something bad will happen to you or to the people around you.
We also believe that if you throw the broken mirror away it's like you throw away the bad luck in your life too and no more danger will come to you. They say they broken mirrors means seven years of misfortune to your life and it takes seven years to renew it.
Spiritual beliefs
Ancient Romans believed that mirrors has special powers, it can catch a person’s soul because you can see your reflection of your body in the mirror and your eyes too which they believe that our eyes is the window of our souls. They believe that thru our eyes the bad spirits in the mirror can possess our human bodies. And they also believe that if you break the mirror your soul will remain trapped inside the broken mirror.
In Hindu culture it is believed that the mirror has a power to see the truth. It is when good or bad spirits take a person’s form or they imitate someones form, mirror shows original identity or it will make you see the truth behind that form. That's why they believe that you shouldn't broke mirrors and if it is broken it shouldn't be kept in our house and if you can't see your face clearly in the mirror you should replace it to a new clear one.
What about dreaming about mirror?
If you having a dream about you looking in the mirror but someone else is in your reflection, someone you know or you don't know it means you have a changes in your own personality or in your behavior. If you see someone you know in the mirror it means that your personality or your behavior is the same as the one you see on the mirror.
Broken mirrors in real life means bad luck or misfortune, but if you see a broken mirror in your dream it means 'saying goodbye to bad habits or negative thoughts about yourself'. It means you want to change yourself to a new one for a better change you want to let go all your bad image from the past and make a new beginning for yourself.
When you broke the mirror accidentally or on purpose in your dream. If you broke it by mistake, this could signify bad luck in your near future you need to think every decision you've made very carefully. If you broke the mirror on purpose, this means that you are ready to let go all the bad memories or bad habits that always hunt you.
According to Tsvetkov, seeing a broken mirror in a dream is a sign of betrayal of people around you. Because of these actions a person she or he might supper some bad luck like loosing a person that close to her/him or loosing some material or financial thing.
How to avoid this Misfortune
If you want to avoid or you are looking for a remedy for the bad luck or misfortune that might happen to you if you broke mirror here some remedy I know to lessen your worries.
Pick every piece of the broken mirror from the floor and don't leave until you get everything.
Pick the biggest piece of the broken mirror and put it under the moonlight.
Put some salt to your shoulder (can't remember if left or right shoulder).
Spin yourself three (3) times counter clockwise.
Toss every piece of broken mirror into south running water.
There's so many superstition about broken mirror, so many beliefs that we might don't believe but it is up to us if we want to believe in this kind of superstition in this world. If someone don't believe in this kind of beliefs let them be as long as he/she's not going to bad-mouth the others beliefs or someone's culture just respect other so they do respect you.
