Grabbed a hot cup of coffee, she then went out the balcony. It is a warm and quiet night. She’s asking for rain, but she knew it’s unattainable this time. Last night the moon lighted the whole village. It’s beautiful, the picturesque view of the moon together with the scattered light altocumulus clouds around it, illuminating the land below it. But right now, she’s staring at the nothingness the night renders. The only light that is visible is from the houses near and far.
Been a busy day for her and it’s time to relax her body and mind. Are all the days work done? Later, they might have to pack documents for her father's appointment on Monday. Or that may be done in the morning. Haha.
It’s their third day in the province. All is well except that they’re still adjusting to the hot temperature here. Their village is located high up the mountainous regions of the Cordilleras so it is expected to have this kind of weather. However though, if the seasons change, they experience colder weather also, from December to February the next year.
How does she feel being away from what she’s used to at the city? She feels relaxed and really at home in the province. Away from the noisy revving engines. Unpolluted air. A good long sleep at night. And away from feasting on fast foods that only gives too much calories as she is too lazy to exercise. Hahaha.
While she is here in the province, she and her daughter eats healthy meals. Well, they eat some also at the city, but occasionally. (Yes, she knows, they need to have balanced diet. Hehe.) It’s great that her daughter doesn’t ask for processed foods, fried chicken, or yeah fast foods because that would be difficult to be ordered and delivered here since they are six hours away from the city.
While they’re here, her daughter’s favorite vegetable is now the sweet potato tops. Her daughter always asks her to make a sauce when they have the tops as a viand. Her sauce will be made out of soy sauce, apple cider vinegar and chopped chilli pepper.
It’s a good thing her mother make it her hobby to plant vegetables near their home. They have on her small garden a moringa tree, eggplant plants, squash, camote tops or sweet potato tops, string beans and Baguio beans( well, I have no idea why they called it as such, maybe because that kind of beans are mostly grown in a place called Baguio where the temperature is lower and cooler?). Anyhow, they’ll be staying here for a while. Enjoying the farm life with her family, until they go back again to the city.
She remembered one of her friends on noise.cash posted something about living simply in a small house, surrounded by plants and vegetables with some farm animals around. Contentment is what he’s looking for I guess. But she thought he added that inside the house will be complete with technology. She bet inside the house will be complete with kitchen and bathroom appliances, add computers and gadgets to that for faucet claiming and mining. Hahaha. It’s funny and in contrast, though that would really be an awesome house to live in. Since we’re here in the modern world that always has new things to discover in.
Still outside at the balcony, she reminisces about how her childhood days went. She really loves to stay there at the balcony, in the dark, wishing and wondering what her life may be when she grows up. Curious about what other people were doing at the other side of her world. If the world really is that big for her, can she conquer it?
If it happens that it’s a clear starry night sky, she hopes and dreams. If it happens that she sees a red light flickering and moving, she wonders what the people inside that big bird doing or where they were headed to. If it happens that the moon is up there in that clear night sky, she contemplates if her heart will be still like the moon, or wild like a storm.
Such young innocent mind with big dreams. Only to be appalled by how life throws a joke at her. She’s always running for a race that won’t ever finish. Because that is life after all. You live to take the race and while you’re still breathing, it goes a long way, until you drew your line.
While she’s thinking back from her yesteryear, the thick clouds concealing the full moon started to scatter, giving way for the moon to light the darkness of this small village she’s in. So beautiful, how it shines, drawing the outlines of the mountain high while she’s cupped in the middle of the bowl like village they are in, looking up. There also are visible stars shimmering, making the sky so alive tonight.
She questions again and again, what kind of life it is? Living in a contemporary world where culture and technology meets.
Is she still lost in the dark? Or is there a light growing in her?
Her moon.
When will it glow?
Anything under the moon...it'll definitely grow :)
