Technology as a means of survival

Technology in today's world has become a great means of survival for people, without technology so many people will not survive because almost every sector uses technology. Asides from the real tech sectors, even other sectors like educational, medical, religious, agricultural, microfinance, entrepreneurial sectors make use of technology. Let's take a good look at the importance of technology in each of this sector.

The importance of technology in every sector

• The educational sector

Technology is quite important in this sector mainly because of research making. Both the tutors and the students needs technology in order to efficiently improve their teachings and learnings. For example, when a student is given an assignment that he has never been taught, he will want to make research using his phone or laptop. Now let's imagine a world without phones or laptops, it would become so difficult to learn and relearn. Technology is as well needed for other important things in the educational sector like storing of data, communication, printing and so on.

• The medical sector

I'm not sure if this sector can function at all without technology because almost everything done in this sector is done with technology. The varieties of instruments used for medical examinations like scanning machine, blood pressure machine, stethoscope, dialysis machine etcetera are products of technology and are very important instruments needed for medical treatments.

• The religious sector

Even the religious sector uses technology, the microphone, speaker, projector, musical instruments etcetera are products of technology. We all don't usually like the outcome of services when all these things are missing, it normally look boring so to say.

• The agricultural sector

The agricultural sector needs technology for a more easier and faster work. It's not that the agricultural sector cannot thrive without technology but the work will be slow and therefore make produce limited. Imagine using tractors, planters and harvesters to work on a farmland compared to someone using hoe and Cutlass, the produce of the mechanized farmer will be more than that of the other farmer.

• The entrepreneurial sector

Entrepreneurial sector like the fashion and clothing industry, hair styling industry, welding, vulcanizing etcetera make use of technology for their business. The clothing industry cannot function at all without technology ie. sewing machine, the same goes for the welding and vulcanizing industry while some other industries can still function partially without technology ie. the hair styling industry but it will not function effectively without technology.

Some other sectors I didn't here mention also needs technology in order to function. While some needs it full time, some only needs it partially.

I came across a video today which lead me into the writing of today. It's a video of a young disabled man (he has no hands), this man is a researcher who is a millionaire. A robotic hand was built specially for him, anytime he wants to do something that requires using a hand, he uses the robot and then removes it back whenever he's done. I was so amazed at how technology is rapidly developing and I got to understand the saying that;

For people without disabilities, technology makes things easier while For people with disabilities, technology makes things possible.

Let's take a good look at the two points and what make them different.

For people without disabilities, technology makes things easier

Being logical, we know that majority of things done now using technology like communication has been in existence a long time even before technology came into space. For instance, the use of phone to make calls was formerly done using letters, letters were used to reach out to people in far distances but would take a very long time before the letter can reach the person it was sent to compared to nowadays, all you have to do is just make a phone call and within the space of minutes, you've passed across the information you have. That's the beauty of technology for people without disabilities, it makes things easier, instead of trekking a mile just to deliver a letter, all you have to do is just make a phone call.

For people with disabilities, technology makes things possible

From the instance I gave above about phones making communication easier, let's take for instance a lame man that needed to put a call through to someone but his phone was in a far distance from him and just all he needed was for him to reach the place and pick it so it will become easy for him to communicate with whosoever he wants to communicate with. The problem now is that he can't walk there so without technology it's impossible to reach where his phone is but with technology, all he has to do is to make use of a wheelchair and in no time he will get to his phone and make his phone call. That's what technology does for people with disabilities, it makes impossible things possible. I'm glad to see robotics making a difference in people's lives.

My today's article is just to point out the importance of technology in our day to day activities and erase the mentality of technology being the bad guy' that some of us have. Couple of weeks back, I overheard a woman saying "technology is what has destroyed the world like this" she was complaining about how her kids are always sitting with their phones and that they would never do something productive with their time. She was also saying that technology is the reason why internet fraud has become so rampant. She was just so negative about technology like there is no positive effect to technology. To buttress this point, I would want us to use technology in a very right way that would help us and also help the world at large not in the bad way that will hurt people.
