Having fears or dislikes is totally alright and a normal thing which every human beings face even the strongest and bravest one. So don't feel embarrassed if you have one or many phobias or fears by thinking about your fears, about people's opinions towards you and your fears and on the same time don't make fun of someone just because they have fear of something as they are already suffering from their inner battles which are making their life much more hard than we can think coz it can cause physiological and psychological complexities.

Before discussing about different types of phobias we must know what phobia is actually, so let's dive into today's topic....

What is Phobia??

"A phobia is an anxiety disorder defined by a persistent and excessive fear of an object or subject"___(Wikipedia)

In simple words, Phobias are actually fears but it is more pronounced and conspicuous than this. Phobia is an anxiety disorder which causes by extreme and irrational fear of simple things.

There are thousands of phobias, we can't even count them. Here is a brief list about some of them______

  • Acrophobia or the fear of height.

  • Achluophobia or the fear of darkness

  • Algophobia or the fear of pain

  • Alektorophobia or the fear of chickens

  • Anthophobia or the fear of flower and so on...

Today, in this article I will be sharing some of the weirdest phobias that actually exists we believe or not and many people are battling with these Phobias we don't even know about them.

🔺Selenophobia (Greek word 'Seleno' meaning Moon) or the fear of Moon.

Who does not love and adore moon?? Literally no one in the earth right?? But wait because there are a lot of people who are really afraid of moon. People with this particular Phobia can do everything just to stop them from seeing the beautiful moon such as closing curtains to avoid looking at the night sky or refusing to roam outside when it's nighttime. Selenophobia also known as 'Lunaphobia' too because the word 'Luna' meaning Moon in Latin.

The fear of Moon can originate from some painful experiences mostly childhood and it may worsen when it's full moon. There are some mythological reasons behind the cause of Selenophobia where people believe that the moon specially the full moon has the power to metamorphose people specially selenohobic people into werewolves but we know this is just a myth, right?? But in reality there is no proper reason particularly which can trigger the fear of moon but we can assume that some childhood traumas releted to moon can cause this.

Some phychological and physiological symptoms of Selenophobia :—

1.Dizziness

2.Muscle tensions

3.Breathlessness etc..

Some other space related phobias are__

  • Siderophobia or the fear of stars

  • Alienophobia or the fear of aliens

  • Meteorophobia or the fear of meteors.

🔺Heliophobia or the fear of Sun

'Heliophobia' or the fear of Sun can be more intense than one can imagine except the person who is suffering from it.

The word 'Helio' means 'Sun' in Greek so we can imagine from where this phobia got it's name.

The impact of Heliophobia is much more worse than it seems as Heliophobia can affect one's daily activities and stop them from enjoying a normal life like others as it is truely impossible to stop oneself from going outside when the sun shines and we know that the sun shines almost for 12 hours.

People with this particular phobia thinks the ray of sun or the warmth of the sun can trigger skin burning,photo- ageing or skin cancer so they do everything they can just to save themselves from contacting sun. There are no cure of phobia actually which can demolish phobia from your mind but you can reduce the impact of phobias by the direct contact of those things which triggers fear in you)ofcourse under some medical staffs).

🔺Somniphobia or the fear of Sleep

We know that how dear and necessary sleep is for us. After a long tiresome and arduous day, who does not want to taste and enjoy the sweet sleep to refill our energy but there are people who are trying their best just to avoid sleep at any cost no matter how laborious and strenuous day they have, these people are called Somniphobic people.

People with Somniphobia spend most of their day planning how not to falling asleep because they think if they fall asleep they would die in their sleep or may experience sleep walking, sleep paralysis or anecdotal nightmares. As the time passes, this phobia can become more bizarre than we can think as it stops people with Selenophobia from falling asleep.

People with this phobia finds lots of hurdles in their daily life both physically and mentally as they do not provide themselves enough sleep which is most important thing to us. They often face sleep deprivation which leads them to have bad temper, not so good focus power, mood swings, poor health etc

Though there is no cure of this phobia still one can get rid of this phobia partially by following the steps as their doctor suggests.

Some physical symptoms of Somniphobia :—

  • Fear and anxiety during sleeptime

  • Choosing to stay up as late as possible instead of sleeping

  • Hyperventilation

  • Sweat and chills

  • Nausea

  • Lack of appetite
