Children are a gift to all. Therefore, we must love them and cherish them. They are our future leaders and we must preserve them and nurture them for the future. However, there are some problems that need to be solved so as not to lose them. Children are often sold by their parents to other people and this must stop.
Although the international Labour organization has established the fact that childhood should be devoted to education and training, not to work, CHILD LABOUR is prevalent in most of the parts of the world, especially in developing countries. Sometimes, children as young as ten years are delivered into slavery where they are forced to work, sometimes under conditions that treaten their lives or forced into prostitution.
This situation need to be dealt with. There are many factors governing the supply and demand for child Labour......
Extreme poverty: this is suffered mostly by families who have poor backgrounds. Sending the children out to work is simply a matter of survival for many poor families, many of whom can barely provide one meal a day, clothe themselves or even look after their health.
To many families, sending their children to school is a dream;they cannot afford it. This is worsened by the shortfalls in the education system:there are not enough schools and even if there are enough schools most of them are not affordable to this class of families. Added to this, there is a shortage of teachers and Many who are in the profession are not qualified enough to give children worthwhile education. The Children's parents often view the instruction given as not significantly useful to create opportunities that may compensate for the immediate income they lose by keeping the children in School.
Besides, there is a ready market for child Labour ; private and company bosses have specific interest in it. In the first place, children cost less in terms of wages than adults. They accept almost any pay their employers promise them and their parents' plight is often so desperate that they offer the children for any wage the employers pledge or offer on the spot.
Since children are very easy to handle, they just misuse them. They are ordered to do anything whether legal or risky. The children do not have a choice than to do it. Should the business be slacken, children are more easily dismissed. They do not belong to any trade union whose leaders may come to their aid even if it means going to court. Hence, they cannot organize any strike against the business and worst of it all, cannot claim any compensation.
There must be effective laws to protect the rights of these poor children and offenders must be brought to book. Who is with me!?
