Intelligent Ants

Many times you may have noticed that ants are cutting leaves and flower petals and filling them at home. Figure 1. Seeing all this, it may seem that ants are collecting these for food. But not really. These leaves are his farmland. He takes them home and spreads them and gradually fungus grows on them (Fig 2)

These fungi nurture, guard, and feed them. On the one hand, the issue is the same as people cultivate. This causes a kind of symbiosis between ants and fungi. This is called as Ant-fungus mutualism .

Some species of ants bite a smaller insect called an aphid (Fig. 3). They feed and shelter aphids. Instead, the ants eat the aphrodisiacs. Each ant takes care of a group of aphids
