Abraham Rescued Lot

In the course of time war broke out in the land were Lot lived. The enemies plundered Sodom and Gomorrah.

Genesis 14:12-13

12] They also carried off Abram's nephew Lot and his possessions, since he was living in Sodom.

13] One who had escaped came and reported this to Abram the Hebrew.

Because Lot was not in the land where God promised to protect Abram, Lot suffered loss and became the victim of evil people. But Abram continued to prosper and by now he has become well-known as the Hebrew (Gen.14:13). It was by this name that his descendants were later called (the Hebrew race).

Genesis 14:14

When Abram heard that his relative had been taken captive, he called out the 318 trained men born in his household and went in pursuit as far as Dan.

Abram will fifth the strong and many enemies with only 318 men. Do you think Abram and 318 men can defeat the thousands? What if Abram dies?

Remember that Abram has no offspring yet and God has a promise to fulfill through Abram and his descendants. If he dies, then Satan can prevent God from keeping His promise. If chose others beside Abram to whom He made the promise, Satan can make God appear as a liar.

Genesis 14:15-16

15] During the night Abram divided his men to attack them and he routed them, pursuing them as far as Hobah, north of Damascus.

16] He recovered all the goods and brought back his relative Lot and his possessions, together with the women and the other people.

Abram and his 318 men defeated the enemies. Though Abram had few men, they became very powerful, strong and able to defeat thousands because God was with them. When God is with us, we would be strong, but when we side with the devil, God would be against us...and who can fight God?
