Phantom ringing syndrome

In relation to the short thriller story I wrote previously (here it is if you want to read), I found that not a lot of people knew about this syndrome.

Phantom ringing/vibration syndrome is a phenomena that you experience when you suddenly hear ringing, buzzing or even feel the smallest vibration against your skin. It's a fascinating phenomena and it really shows how much the brain chemistry has changed with the emergence of cellphones. Although back in the 1990's, this was still called the phantom pager symbol (since they had pagers then, but not phones).

This develops when:

You have prolonged exposure: So this is basically where the generation gaps come in. You can see that older generations don't really get these kinds of phenomena unless they've been adapting to each advancement of technology. As for the younger generations, however. Exposure to gadget vibrations and rings have been with for as long as we remember that as we grow older, phones basically become part of our body (like how our parents say that we basically can't live without gadgets ;-;) so through brain conditioning, we sometimes end up thinking that we're getting notifs when in reality, it may just be the brain playing trick on you.

Ringing average and frequency adds to the factors in which one would develop the syndrome. If in a day, you hear phones vibrate left and right, or at least a few times a day, the sound frequency (around 600-1000 Hz) from those sounds would be enough to shock your hearing sense and eventually cause a sensitivity to the sounds that are around the same frequencies, thus also a factor why a ringing or buzzing sound would pop out of nowhere.

Brain Chemistry is also a factor in this. This sensation relates to the auditory problems and is not focused on just ringing. It's also the same reason why sometimes you hear someone's voice calling you when they're actually not or when they're not there. Or like when you hear a character's voice while you read a quote or line with the character in the picture

I bet you're reading this in spongebob's voice to

Or even when you think you're hearing the sounds a certain appliance or item make when you use it. It's basically a conditioning of the brain through hearing. But that will be saved for another day when I'm up for discussing the applications of the two most famous conditioning concepts Classical conditioning and operant conditioning

So if you want to read more on this phenomena, here are some papers i used as basis for this article

Waaxckk so that's it, i always hear voices of my friends or family while reading their chats

Yes, because your brain was conditioned to their voices so as long as you know it's your friend, you'll think they're telling you the text you're reading in person

Nice article. Never knew there is a name for that syndrome. I always thought it is just a buzz and nothing more

This made the news a few years back though. Maybe people really didn't mind that news topic. But it's a fascinating phenomena, really

True. Another thing I like is no matter how small or minimal it sound, there are always scientists trying to find the truth and reality about things

Science is basically the embodiment of the human obsession to label and identify things so that means... I'm an obsessed human being 😂😂😂

But do you ever hear voices of people you know even though they aren't there or aren't calling you?

Yes! I do experience this a lot!

From what I know, it is a likely sign of a healthy mind 😋

I'm not sure about the mind being healthy if it happens but i guess? Since brain activity is sensitive and responsive?

Well I guess it not a terrible thing

I never knew there was a name for this occurrence. It gets creepy sometimes though I can almost swear that my device was buzzing only to get to the device and see that it never actually buzzed.

Then you have a bit of a mild case of that 😂 but i don't think it's anything to worry about? It just means your brain is really active and is somehow conditioned to the sound
