Intro to drawing with pens

I'm pretty sure all of use use pens and more so, use them to doodle random things out so i figured, it would be good to give out points that will maybe help? Since i mostly draw with pens because it's cheap, easy to find, easy to use, very neat and it has that certain depth you can only get from ink and charcoal. It really makes details pop out. The downside though is that it's permanent and really hard to start off with compared to other mediums. There's also that matter of what pen you use and how you hold it or how much pressure you put into it. So for here, i used all the pens i found in my pencil case and just made a comparison of how each pen line would look like in a quick sketch.

So i did some simple shadings just to show off the difference in texture because when i draw i end up using 2 pens just to get a good smooth texture going for me. Each pen has a different way of fading out, as shown in the 4th column. I also dhow that you can smudge ink out to add to shading in details but not as much as you could smudge out charcoal and graphite. I also wanna add that the angle on how you hold the pen is important since it's how you'll achieve a fading effect

Like when you hold the pen kinda straight, no matter how light your hand is, it will always make thick, heavy lines that works good with outlines and such. It also applies to most dry medium too. Then when you angle it a bit lower, you get softer lines

Then when only a side of the tip touches the paper, you get really soft lines that works great for shading and for doing shadows or something like a smoke affect like what i did with the cigars (i dun smoke, okay ;-; it was just the first thing i saw when i started looking for what to show). But then this kind of trick doesn't work on all pens, i just kinda look for this when i buy pens so all the pens i have can give off the effect.

And as I've said, how much pressure you put on the pen is also how to get those really thin lines but then it still applies to almost any media. I think this is all i can share for now?
