Is Quality of Education affected by the Modular Type of Learning?

Teachers, learners, and parents or stakeholders play a significant role in the implementation of the curriculum in school towards better learning of the learners. The success of aiming the goal of the education lies on the dedicated teachers, active learners and positive involvement of the stakeholders.

Based on my observation as teacher on the field or one of the implementers of the curriculum, lot of curriculum issues were happened that are considered as critical problems. These three most critical issues; quality, budget and cost could really affect of aiming an education that is competent, excellent and quality.

Because of mass promotions of the learners, the quality of the education has greatly affected that may considered as the most critical curriculum issue on our educational system. We are expecting quality education but the reality is very far to its expectation. Many students were promoted to the next grade level without even mastery of the learning competencies. We, teachers did our best but not all, how to be effective and efficient teachers in order to have productive learners in the near future. But what happened to our learners, some of them can't survive to pursue their studies to college. They struggled to face challenges until they decided to better stop their studies.

The quality that we are wishing for to our learners did not meet. The effect of giving passing grades to the learners who did not perform very well is not really good. We were not actually helping them. We broke our expectations.

Like in this pandemic crisis, we are instructed not to give grades of line of seven to our learners for the reason of having no face to face discussion. I did not follow this instruction because it is against to my conscience to give them passing grades for they were lack of interest to learn. They spent more time for their gadgets than for their studies. In fact, they did not cooperate to learn and why do I give them a grade of more than 80.

I don't want to be blamed anybody why the quality of education has diminished. I don't want to give them passing grades for there's no learning at all. It's an ashame for us teachers who promoted our learners that they were not interested to gain knowledge.

Do you have a son or daughter who is facing difficulties in their studies? Is it true that there are students who can't survive their studies in college due to unpreparedness and unreadiness?

Thank you for reading! Your comments for me are very valuable.

Modular learning is the least type of learning. Students don't even read the modules because they depend on us teachers. Thus, making the quality of education not so good and not so bad.

Mao gyod Kay magsalig Ang mga bata sa teachers. Kung naa pod sa skwelahan, dili pod maminaw sa discussion. Wa gyod bisag unsaon pwera lang sa mga maayo.

Modular learning was so hard for my daughter because first, she speaks English and Filipino was hard for her, second, some of the modules were not properly thought of- I am sorry I know you did your best but there were lessons that were not appropriate for their age. My partner and I try our best to help our daughter to understand her lessons and we always make sure that she answers them based on her understanding. We didn't want to spoonfeed her because she'll suffer that consequence. There are a lot of factors to consider- parents who go to work and have no time to teach their kids- they will starve if the parents won't work, no budget for internet and stuff. There are kids who spend more of their time on their gadgets rather than studying and that's the parents' fault. Educating our kids goes hand in hand it shouldn't be the teacher's responsibility alone.

Thank you so much my friend for this additional inputs. There are really many factors to consider about the delivery of the lessons. There are parents who have time for their children but they don't have knowledge about their lessons. And there are also professional parents but don't have time to teach them. We teachers also are worried for them. They will be promoted to next level. Within two years of having no face to face instructions would make them difficult to connect the lessons when fave to face will be back. In k-12 program, all lessons are spiral. Thanks for that wonderful information my friend.

I once taught in a school that instructed teachers to dash out marks to all students and make sure no one fails. When I heard it, I became mad! Wft!

According to the management, that is done to encourage parents. LolšŸ¤£

Yes that's true to encourage the parents to get involved in the learning process. Bit the problem is the learners who did not get interested to learn anymore. Thanks a lot my friend.

Because of the DepEd program that no one should be left behind. Even how we encourage learners to motivate them, if they don't have interest anymore we can't force them. We visited them at home but still they showed lack of motivation.

Yes I agree with you my friend. But the other countries, they have started face to face but unlike here in the Philippines, we have only one section per grade level.

My personal opinion to this one is yeah, I could feel that quality of education is laggard today. I was bit worried about the future of kids who choose to pay others for them to do the required module they need to pass the grading system, Parents somehow also thought it was convenient yet, and it was absurd.

It happened also in our school. Parents paid someone who answered their children's module. This is so alarming especially this learner belongs to STE class. It's very disappointing.

There is something wrong with the system. Speed should not prohibit teachers to fail students just because we are in a pandemic period. If we keep on considering students, the quality of education will be sacrificed. Also, Deped should stop giving teachers loads of paperworks, they need to focus on meeting the students learning needs.

I hope for this new administration, BBM will keep his promise to provide more personnel to work for the other paper works that sometimes destructs our teaching activities.

I could feel what you were saying my friend Murakamii. I agreed so much with you about prohibiting us to fail students because we're on pandemic crisis. I understand what you mean. With regards to paperworks, it makes us haggard and exhausted before the day will end. We should be paperless anymore.
