The dull ache in her head and the heaviness she felt all over her body made Mrs Jones want to stay in bed a little longer. She silently thanked God that she didn't have to think of hurrying to work with all she had on her hands. Now, not only did she need the sleep, she deserved it too. But she couldn't indulge herself, at least not now. So with all the strength and determination she could muster she crawled out of bed shortly before 5:00am.
She had been awake all night long because her three months old baby cried continually and did not drift off to sleep until about 3:30am. She could not understand the cause of his persistence cries, and had done everything she knew how to get him to sleep, all to no avail. With sleepy eyes , she went into the kitchen. She had to prepare something for breakfast and pack the older children's lunch boxes for school. Thank heavens, that didn't take much of her time.
Since her husband was out of town on an official assignment, she decided to pray with the children in their bedroom instead of the sitting room where they usually prayed when daddy was around. It took her almost fifteen minutes to get them out if bed . And it took another thirty minutes just to get them ready for school. Those two girls were a handful! Their school bus arrived in no time and they were off to school.
Even after they left for school, she still couldn't get the much desired sleep because of course, there was the house to clean up clothes to launder and the baby to attend to. And she grappled with all these other chores until boisterous Janet and joy returned from school. Keeping them out of trouble while attending to the baby always proved very demanding. She never could get used to it!
The above scenario very well described what many mothers have to deal with day after day. From the time you wake up early every morning till bed time, there is hardly any idle moment. The activities you have to see to are almost endless rising up early to have your own personal time with God gathering the whole family together for the family devotion (you know how difficult it is to get the children to come around) preparing breakfast, dressing then up and sending them to school, and after they have left for school, gathering the dirty clothes to wash, drying and ironing them, picking the toys around the house, preparing lunch before they return from school, reviewing their class work with them when they return, getting them to do their home work, washing over them as they play around the house, so that they do not hurt themselves, answering their seemingly unending questions, defining proper and improper behaviour, correcting and discipline them when necessary and encouraging them when appropriate, praying with them before going to bed and so on.
Apart from what you have to give physically, you will also spent both emotionally and psychologically, for instance when any of your children is unable to eat, you automatically lose appetite. When one or more of your children is in pain, you are never at peace, in fact, you'll wish the pains could be transferred to you. Sometimes like the woman in the illustration, you may even have to resign your job, just to ensure that you are able to give your children all the time and attention they deserve. You'll agree that the responsibility of nurturing and training your children is enormous and tasking but nevertheless a most scared one.
Unarguably, the Christian mothers plays the most critical role in teaching and training her children, preparing them for success in life, preparing them for service to God and helping them to make heaven at last. Henry G Bosch one said think of some of the great men of the Bible like Moses , Samuel and Timothy, where would they have been had it not been for their praying spirit-led mothers? Think of Augustine, John Newton and the zealous Wesleys their history had not been for the blessed influence of Godly mothers.
Conclusion
