The director of the Vinca Institute of Nuclear Sciences, Snezana Pajovic, said that the genetic profile of each of us carries certain records in the genes, which determine whether there is a greater or lesser predisposition to Covid 19 disease.
This was determined by the research that the researchers of the Laboratory for Radiobiology and Molecular Genetics of that institute are working on, and as Pajović adds, genetic markers clearly indicate the possible course of the disease development, which enables preventive action. "Of course, it is necessary to include in the analysis all previously known risk factors for complications due to covid, in order to assess the risk as accurately as possible," she said, adding that the results of such research can help assess the use of existing drugs in the fight against coronavirus.
As she said, Serbia does not have data on the detailed genetic structure of its population, and that is why the existing databases cannot be used. The scientific research work on that project will last for 18 months, and in addition to it, Vinča's researchers are also working on testing drugs against covid 19 that are already in use. At the beginning of the year, Dr. Branislav Nestorović shocked the Serbian public when he stated that Serbs have "lion genes" that protect them from the crown. He soon denied that and stated that he said that Serbs have a "completely different genetic structure".
"The coronavirus shows an affinity for one specific ACE2 protein. Everyone has that protein in their lungs, but those who have a specific form of that protein bind the virus more easily and develop pneumonia. Others have mild forms. This so-called polymorphism is particularly pronounced in East Asian peoples. that Italians also have a high frequency of that protein. This explains why they have a high mortality rate, "said Dr. Nestorović a few months ago, adding that this is also at the level of speculation for Italians, because there is no evidence. According to him, the source for this is the recent research of Chinese scientists. "The explanation for the Chinese is clear that they have this protein in their lungs, and this has not been proven for Italians, but there is nothing smarter, there is no more normal answer that would explain this high mortality in Italians. And that is interesting, because the virus behaves completely atypically." he states.
