Alpine ibex is a species of large mountain herbivores such as goats that inhabit the highest peaks of the European Alps. Alpine ibex using hooves like pliers and impressive agility are able to "defy gravity" ...that is, they are able to climb even the steepest cliffs, thus avoiding most predators. But their ability to climb even vertical walls has made ibex famous around the world.
The Cingino Dam, located in the Italian region of Piedmont, is one of many masonry dams in the European country, but became a somewhat tourist attraction a few years ago, after photos of ibex climbing vertically all the way to the top became a virtual hit on social media .
Looking at these photos or videos of these herbivores expertly transcending a seemingly unadjustable vertical structure, it is easy to see why millions of people around the world (animal lovers) have declared themselves fascinated.
Alpine ibex are somehow able to "stick" to any rock that protrudes at least a little from the dam and so little, allows them to jump on the wall and stand vertically not to say "defy gravity" on a wall 50 meters high and so come to the mineral they so desperately need.
This mineral salt is needed by Capricorns for proper functioning. Without it, their bones are not strong enough, the nervous system and muscles do not function properly, In the spring, when the goats come down from the mountain tops, it is not uncommon to see them licking roads sprinkled with salt against freezing.
One source of precious salt that only ibex can reach is high on the walls of a dam like Qing. Etringite, also called Candlot's salt, is a hydrated calcium alumina sulfate that is formed during the hydration of portland. It is a particularly valuable nutrient for ibex, because of the calcium it contains, and they will not stop at anything to come to it.
Photographs of ibex standing almost below 90 degrees vertically on the vertical walls of the dam have been circulating on social media for years, and while most were taken at the Cingino Dam in Piedmont, similar behavior has been recorded at other dams in Italy, such as the 65-meter-high Barbellino Dam. in Lombardy or the dam of Lago della Rossa, a 31-meter structure in Piedmont.
Females and their young are most often seen climbing vertically along dams or defying gravity.
