Vhishing Scam, Be Alert!
February 4, 2022
Vhishing scam is the new modus that scammer are doing presently. They will phone the victim and it will sound legit because they have your information with them and they are well trained to address you about a certain scenario that you would believe they are really working in a bank. They use their information to get another information about you and one by one you are lure to give your username, password and credit card information. These are all stored in their devices for them to download.
Just last night, I saw in news that a certain man had a conversation with a scammer. He was called by a certain name coming from the bank which he has a credit card. The man told him that they will be having a system upgrade and they will need to upgrade their information too. He even gave a link for this man to click for that information to be updated. Since he doesn't heard nor received an email about system upgrade of his bank, he called the bank. The bank confirmed that they don't call for a system upgrade and they are not doing it as of the moment. He found out that her online banking was locked or block because he had been logging on his bank account when he knows he is not. Good thing that scammer was not successful as his account balance is still intact. It is proper to call the bank first before believing to a scammer to confirm the changes.
I learned by searching the word "vishing" that it has been happening the US since year 2020, were 240,000 were fallen victims. There are lots of vlogs of Filipino vloggers that a scammer were calling them and asking for their email and some information. Later on, they will ask the victim about a text that they will receive and it is consists of their OTP number which that bank always states to never share with anyone. The scammer will ask for their OTP and advise that it is part of the system upgrade. If you think about it, system upgrade doesn't need anything from your information because system upgrade consist of confidential internal process of the bank. You will receive a text or email from the bank if they will be doing a system upgrade to tell you that the site or app will be down for a certain time. They will never call you or email you that you need to give some information so be aware.
What you need to do?
In addition, some will call to your number using Covid restriction as part of the system upgrade and you will be force to share some information like name, username, email and even Mother's maiden name. From your name to any information, you don't need to answer that. The proper way is to end the call and call your bank to their number from their official website and report that a certain call was on going and tell the agent the whole story. This is also for them to be aware that their customer will be a prey for scamming and to avoid it from happening.
If you begin searching, there are lots of reason why vhising happens but a proper awareness by reading and watching some vlogs of people that became a victim or soon to be a victim will educate you more. You need to watch it because the scammer is using different ways to lure you to believe in them. Be aware. Your money is a hard earned money.
I am glad that these people found me on the site, because if not, my life will still be miserable, of course, I'm only joking! But I am grateful for them because they support me and still support me up to this moment.
