What affects the Will?

Today I just understood fully the meaning of the saying,"If there's a WILL, there's a WAY".

Earlier today we had an emergency meeting. The reason is that a lot has been resigning in the current LOB or account that I am in. To those who does not know yet, I have been working in the BPO industry for 8 years. With that said number of tenured years that I was with this industry I have witnessed the changes of the previous generations to the new ones. There has been a lot of difference especially when it comes to accepting criticism.

Now why do I talk about WILL?

WILL at doing anything is the key to accomplish a certain task or goals. Without the will to do something it would be a challenge to finish or reach your goals at a given time plus it would be very hard since when there is a WILL issue your main rival is yourself.

Factors affecting WILL:

Criticism- when you start working it is normal that you get to receive criticism and feed back from your support or supervisor. We must be open to accept such especially when given in a way that we are not embarrassed because it is for us to learn on what to improve. People can see things that we might have noticed for ourselves and criticism for me is a great tool to use for you to meet the expectations and standards.

If you are a Supervisor or Support and you have that opportunity to provide feed back to your colleague let them do self assessment.

At work we follow a certain template:

  • Continue-things that your colleague could think they have done good and something they can continue.

  • Start- something they might have missed but they can start doing.

  • Stop- a behaviour or action that they should stop doing as it greatly affects their performance.

If they are able to do such self assessment it would be a lot easier for you to measure how well do they know themselves and for you to just add up anything you have that was not mentioned.

Culture/Environment- At work we have to maintain a culture or environment fit for everyone. There should be diversity and equality among all colleagues be it a member of LGBTQ+ and the likes. We have to learn on how to respect those individuals as they are also human trying to live and make a living.

Support- I have already mentioned that support is important when providing feed back but YOU as someone higher than your colleague or someone close to her should be able to help when some of them encounter difficulties completing a certain task. We should be sensitive especially to newly hired people because it might not be visible on their faces but they might have been suffering difficulties with the given task and just afraid to raise some question.

Support does not only end up at the office though but also at home. So never forget to tap your sister, mother, father or brother's back for doing a great job!

Now a days, a certain new hire who does not have any experience needs to be handled with care. They are not someone you can shout at because they are too sensitive. Once their will is affected they would start to be absent until they would decide to quit.

It's a great article, Glez. We have been experiencing that here too. it's rampant now a days. Having a new faces just come and go for a short period of time and not the ideal long term employment that we are aiming. I have been in my company for more than 10 years now and i have no plans of moving out and transferring to another unless the company really wanted me too.. I have witnessed different kind of people each with different behavior that are indeed hard to handle. But as a supervisor, you really need to handle it in a good and respectable manner. Constant improvement should be the key in the company.. exposed them to something new that they can learn and develop their selves more. keep them feel that they are also important in the group. As a leader, checking them for most of the time would make them feel valued. Check on how their works doing.. show support and appreciation for all their hard work and dedication. Show concern if they commit mistakes, it's not to demoralized them but to push them to do good on their work as that will benefit them as well. Have a good evening and keep safe..
