Some Beliefs of Marital Bad Luck
Marriage happens everyday in this world and so is divorce too. People find reasons to fall in love everyday while many are busy looking for reasons to break up. Before accepting to be in love with somebody, I believe that there is this body chemistry and love butterflies in our feelings that makes us want to be in relationship with the person. It is just so unfortunate that within a matter of time, everything dies off and the love of our life becomes the enemy of our life.
There are so many beliefs that a relationship or marriage won't last and some go spiritual to find out if they are making the right choice. There are a couple of beliefs that signify that a marriage won't last and they have been held for a long time. People go into relationships and marriages to stay for a long time but not know that one day, temptations will come knocking at the door. How do you know that your marriage will last forever or if divorce is lurking, or if you will love each other always? Some of these beliefs include:
Rain on the wedding day
While some believe rainfall on a wedding ceremony to be a sign of good luck, others so not. They see it as the opposite and shouldn't happen at all. To some cultures, rainfall on a wedding day is seen as tears and thus a bad omen for the celebration. These beliefs simply interpret that the woman will cry in the marriage.
I do not agree with that belief. Rain falling on a wedding day should rather be seen as a good sign and not otherwise. Here in Africa, the rainmakers see wedding days as an opportunity to exercise their power. They attempt to spoil the ceremony with rain because the people who own the ceremony appease them with some valuables.
Seeing the bride in her wedding dress before the ceremony
As funny as this sounds to me, it is bad luck for the groom to see the bride in her wedding dress before the wedding day. One of the reasons for that is because during the olden days, people have arranged marriage. They seem not to see their partner until the wedding day. Such practice is old but still remembered as a sign of bad luck. For some reason, it could be because the partners might see themselves before the day and not like each other or probably because it is not yet time.
Misplacing the wedding ring
Misplacing the wedding ring is believed to be a sign of doom and bad luck. Some traditions have it that anyone who misplaces the ring must die (early) in the marriage. I personally refuse to agree with all these. I know the ring which is a symbol of marriage should be cared for but sometimes because of their small sizes, they can be easily misplaced. To misplace something shouldn't be a sign of doom. If not, everybody on earth must have been doomed.
Breaking and spilling important things during wedding preparation
Breaking and spilling things happen in almost every marriage ceremony and is never intentional. In every ceremony, there is a big crowd of people and in situations like that, spilling of drinks or breaking of glass cups is likely to happen. This belief says that if such a thing happens, it is a sign of bad luck for the couple. Sometimes it could be a plate with food that falls and breaks. That shouldn't be bad luck for the couple but rather the plate.
Seeing a black cat or other unlucky animals
This is the most common belief. Cute pets from nature are sometimes accused of what's not their business simply because they displayed their cute body to the guests. The owl is fearfully believed to be a bad luck on its own let alone being seen in a wedding ceremony. Some of this cute creatures are regarded as unlucky because they have creepy and unusual appearance like the owls big eyes.
