Easter Traditions here.
This is the day so many people have been waiting for. A special day it is for everyone and a day to remember for all the christians around the world. Special thanks to God for making this day a success. From January till now is no surprise, though it always seem so fast to me. If I were asked how many months past already since last Christmas, I would say three months, but here indeed, it the fourth month and more than halved. The good news is that we have been living fine all the months and I hope you are too.
Shout out to my lovely sponsors..
Today is the day of Easter and a remarkable day for all christians. I wish everyone well as they celebrate. This annual tradition means a lot for people in my village. All through the week after Easter is celebration upon celebration. It an opportunity for families to celebrate their success and support themselves too. This is how Easter goes down in my village and my town too.
At first, the Easter week is a quick reminder to everyone that Easter is here. It a week for making plans and arrangements for The day which always comes on Sunday. Everyone starts gathering enough money for the celebration and making estimates for expenses. When it Saturday, most people goes to the market to buy meat for the next day. Saturdays like this are a good business day for poultry farmers. They sell in higher price because there is a very high demand for it. There is a new development in the market and I noticed it the last time I visited to buy some household stuffs. I noticed that there are people whose job is to kill chicken and cut them to different sizes as approved by their customers. They make a living from that and are always at work. This must be a season fir them to make more income.
In my village, it is a common tradition to cook ground pea. According to stories, in the olden days, every family must cook this particular food on either new year night or Christmas night or even this Easter night. That was when people were more united. Nowadays, it a choice to cook that food in every family. Most families don't even cook them again.
On Easter night, villagers who live in far places comes home for celebration and on this night, they gather with their families for some refreshment. They buy lots of drink, cook local foods and invite neighbors to share with them. I remember when I stayed with my grandma, a neighbor invited us to share with them and that was how I ate a very delicious local dish for the first time.
After this gathering and refreshment at night, people who wants to go to church will go to church. It another thing about church services in my town on Easter nights. It always a late hour mass that lasts till midnight. After that, there will be another mass in the morning and it always between eight o'clock till noon.
The main celebration comes on Easter Sunday. Every family in town will always prepare a special rice and stew for the day. People are also at the market buying meat. Some buy goat, some buy beef too but the most selling meat for the day is always chicken. It like the celebration is not complete without chicken.
The day if Easter is a loud day, loud and noisy on the streets. People play songs in there homes and the street is filled with different sound. On this day, hotel and lounges also make huge profit of from a lot of customers. It all about merriment and enjoyment for all.
Easter is a bit different from Christmas because, children don't have to wear new clothes around. They wear their Christmas clothes and feel the day with that.
After Easter, the next day which is Monday is the day that extended families come together. This is the main reason why people come back from afar. On this day, they assemble at the family eldest person's house. They come with their wife and children to discuss the progress of their family and to let the young ones meet there cousins, uncle's, niece and nephew.
This gathering is so important because some strange things and taboos have been happening in this world. Someone has almost married his cousin unknowingly. They met each other at the city and became lovers and were about to tie the knot before finding out they are related. In so many instances, this has been happening. So, this family gathering is also a way of putting that taboo in check.
According to stories of the past, it is said that when such marriage happens, the partners will have to perform some sacred sacrifices to be cleansed from there mistake. Some go as far as making huge sacrifices to the god's of the land in form of donating cows. In whatever way, they perform some sacred traditions.
After the family gathering, there is always a day fixed for the whole village to feast together. This is the biggest celebration and it always comes during the weekend. They invite people from other towns and villages, they also perform some masquerade dance and inter competition among them. This activities are no more in existence now, probably because people don't have time for that or because they believe that their progress will be monitored by their enemy.
Today, it is very rare to see people gathering extended family meeting or even doing things and sharing equal love and respect to each other because of one problem or another.
This makes our people lose some of their culture and tradition. Even some local food prepared occasionally are no more. This pains me the most.. lol 😂
Easter in my village used to be more of showing love to people and feasting together but now it a little different. There are no extended family gathering anymore, some people will never visit their village till death and some children do not even know their village or even their Uncles. Things have changed a lot here but all the same, Easter is still celebrated with love among families and friends. I hope you had a beautiful Sunday lovelies.
Thanks for reading and have a great time ahead.

Things do change as time passes by. It is interesting how your village used to celebrate Easter. I wish you a wonderful one with your family :) Our way of celebrating also changed. We used to play egg-hunting many years back and always had fun, now, things are different.
