It´s been a while. This is part 2 of my list of favorite virtual pets to play. If you haven´t already you can read the previous entry here.
So moving on, here are a couple of games to check out:
1.DGMonsters VPet
This version is a complete replica of the original Digimon vpet. It´s got the original sprites and features. You care for it, train it, and battle with other Digimon.
The interesting part is you can raise up to four pets at the same time. When it comes to battles, there´s expanded connectivity, you can battle other people online, a friend through Bluetooth, with your other Digimon in the same device, and through a QR code. This last one was inspired by the scanner toy, where monsters are hidden in any code, you can hunt Digimon in the real world like a more primitive version of Pokemon GO.
Microtransactions: The game is free-to-play, but you can pay to remove the ads, and there is a small subscription fee to unlock color sprites, which is odd, as I would prefer to pay for it once.

2.DiNostalgia Widget
This one was based on the Dinkie Dino device, where you raise dinosaurs. It´s actually very accurate to the original like for example, you have to worry about the temperature and you can educate your pet. Since you have the option of using it as widget you can have show up as a little device on your screen.
It´s the perfect app for nostalgic players.
Microtransactions: Unfortunately, if you want to unlock other dinos in the evolution tree you have to buy it. You can also unlock different versions like a penguin and an alien. While I don't necessarily mind this, I wish they could let you try the full dino version first, as part of the fun for this game is to get it to evolve into different pets. Also, I don´t know if the store works, since this game has been around for so long. You could try to find a modded version on another site or find some tutorial on how to unlock it.

3.Cute Pet Pululu
You raise a little 2d seal in this game. There´s a bunch of minigames, and decorate your room, use it as a widget, a feature that in my personal opinion, doesn´t get used very often in these kinds of games. This game actually reminds me of the newer version of Tamagotchi that has colorful graphics, so i´t a cheap alternative if you can´t get your hand on one.
Microtransactions: Some items require money and there are ads, but they don´t interfere with the gameplay much, I think.

4.Tamadroid
Don´t let the simple outdated graphics fool you, this is a proper Tamagotchi clone complete with the original pet sprites. The game has up to 22 evolutions, depending on how you care for it. You also have the option to make them evolve at random without worrying about their care stats.
This game, however, is a lot more casual, for one the pets will only age as long as the app is running, the creators did try their best to allow it to run in the background without wasting a lot of battery, it saves the state your pet was in and then calculates how much time as passed using your phone clock and date. The game also has a pause option if you are too busy.
You can choose your pet´s sleep schedule. I realize that people have busy lives making it difficult to focus on a game that always needs their attention so this is perfect.
Microtransactions: This is a paid app, not much in the way of ads. But it´s not very expensive.

5.Catgotchi, Dogotchi and Wildgotchi
These are different apps, but with a different theme, you can raise cats, dogs, or other animal species.
At the beginning of each game, you can only pick three breeds, but you can unlock more as you raise them into adulthood, you can also switch between caring for different pets whenever you like. There is also some variety on the minigame you can play. But in terms of gameplay, it´s a bit simplistic
Microtransactions: They are pretty much free-to-play but you still have to deal with ads.

6.Evopet
While it takes some inspiration from Digimon it´s pretty much its own thing and has original monster designs. This game is more focused on combat when compared to other games. You can train your pet by playing three minigames that will increase their stats.
You can then fight other players, NPC monsters, and even enter a tournament. The combat is mostly card-based, you have three attack lanes and can activate shield and attack cards as your energy meter fills up. You can customize and organize your own deck, you can get new cards either by using in-game currency or through regular gameplay.
Pet evolution goes to several stages from rookie to champion to mega. What makes this game different is that food can influence the type of monster. Another aspect is generational evolution which helps unlocks the evo tree and increase future stats with each generation.
Microtransactions: This game has a pro version that unlocks all the game features, such as raising multiple pets and high-level tournaments. It´s got no ads or freemium

7.Digi-Dino
This the most recent of the list, and one I think that has potential. Like it says in the title you raise digital dinosaurs. The basic plot is that Dinoland has been taken over by a corrupted dino and it´s up to you to raise one that will defeat him, giving this game more of an objective besides just caring and evolving your pet.
You can play several minigames to make your dino happy, and increase its stats. The game over a world to explore where you can fight enemies and possibly get items.
You can also change the wallpaper, and consult an evolution skill tree to see what your pet can evolve too
Microtransactions: None, I think. Mind you I didn´t have the time to play the game completely, but it´s free-to-play.

8.Pixel Petz
This one looks a little bit outside the theme, but I was getting some vibes from customized breeds from the petz original games. Long-story short, there was a community that grew around the game, where fans would alter breeding files and make their own pets, and share them online or with other players.
This game has a similar style but with a lot more focus on pet customization. When you start the game you have the option of choosing different body parts, colors and the shape of your pet. However, you will need to buy new parts if want to have your dream pet. You can send your pet on jobs to get more coins
After creating it, you can enter it into a petz show, and also vote for your favorite player pet designs. You can trade pets from other players.
Petz can be bred, and their appearance will influence the look of their pups/kittens. And they can go through different life stages.
This game is more targeted at creative players. So, if character design is your thing I recommend checking it out.
Microtransactions: While free to play, you can also unlock certain color/parts with actual currency. It can take a much longer time to unlock and design your ideal pet. It also comes with ads.
Honorable mentions
Two of the game that did not make it on this list were Tamagotchi Forever and Digimon ReArise, but are still worth looking into. Tamagotchi Forever is the official app with updated 3d pets, with a few changes, like the pets can´t die and instead live in the town as adults. It even has a school and everything.
ReArise on the other hand, is an rpg. However, you can bond with them through interaction. It even comes with a pedometer where you activate the app, and find items as you walk. The pedometer mode is basically an homage to the original vpet.
Last but not least there is Androgotchi, there is nothing much to it, besides being another tamagotchi clone, the difference is the lifespan is much shorter. I managed to raise it from baby to elder in just a week.
That´s it for now. Hopefully, you will get to enjoy some of these games as much as I did. If happened to know about other similar games that you want me to review, please give me a comment. I´m always open to suggestions.
Disclaimer: None of the games in this article are play-to-earn or crypto games. I make reviews of all kinds of games, so keep that in mind.
