Socialization, Process and Agents of Socialization
Socialization is defined as the process of learning one's culture and how to live within it. The ways our teens and youths are being socialized nowadays are different from the ways it were in the past. Socialization helps the young ones to know about their culture and society, and how to live within it. Socialization informs the younger ones in the society about their culture, because one of the ways to learn about ones culture is through socialization. Culture is defined as shared patterns of behaviours and interactions, cognitive constructs and understanding that are learned by socialization. Cultures are learnt through socialization, because culture is everything which is socially learned and shared by the members of a society.
The ways people are being socialized in this 21st century seems entirely different from how it's done in the times past, there are different trends and patterns that people follow suit nowadays in order to be socialized. Socialization teaches us our cultures, because culture is a way of life, culture defines situations, attitudes, values, goals, myths, legends, supernatural, and provide behaviour patterns.
Newborn is merely an organism, socialization makes him responsive to the society, becomes socially active, self-conscious and the culture that his group inculcates in him, humanize him, and makes him more aware and conscious of his culture. The process of socialization is indeed endless. The cultural pattern of a particular individual, in the process gets incorporated in the personality of an individual. Socialization stands for the development of the human brain, body, attitude, behaviour and so forth. Socialization is known as the process of inducting the individual into the social world. Younger ones knows relatively less or nothing about the world, but the education given to them by the older ones in the community and society as a result of socialization enlighten them more about their community, society and world at large, gives them advice, orientation, information, counsels about the world in order not to allow the younger ones go astray, and also inculcate them them with the skills and knowledge in passing the culture through socialization to the future generations.
Socialization is the process of interaction through which the growing individual learns the habits, attitudes, values and beliefs of the social group into which he has been born. From the point of view of the society, socialization is the way through which society transmits its culture from generation to generation and maintain itself. From the point of view of the individual, socialization is the process by which the individual learns social behaviour and develop himself or herself. One thing is clear about socialization, from both the society and individual point of views, socialization seeks to educate, it's a way and process of educating oneself and others in the society.
Socialization is a process by which culture is transmitted to the younger generation and men learn the rules and practices of social groups to which they belong. Personality do not come ready- made.The process that transforms a child into a reasonably respectable human being is a long process. Specific groups carry out socialization. We call these agents of socialization. They represent and act on behalf of the larger society. Socialization can occur outside of these agents but society relies on these agents doing most of the socialization. They include;
