I don't feel like going back to school
For someone who comes from an average family and also taking the present situation of the country, life after school is always dreaded by most youths in schools without no hopes. The country is battling many problems like unemployment, banditry, hunger, and so on. All these problems make people fear what will become of them once they finish their university education. It's a known fact that there are many graduates every year with little employment and jobs to serve those graduates. Because of a bad system running in the country, some people see going to school might be an unprofitable investment.
Many students are still depending on their parents. Since they are in school, they have to depend on their parents till they complete their education. Most times, those students especially those that came from average homes always dread life after school, when they have to be independent and fend for themselves. That being said, Universities have been shut down for almost six months and still counting now due to an industrial strike placed by the academic lecturers.
Many students have forgotten about school and all they could think of is how to make money both legally and illegally. Many have resorted to cyber crimes because they don't have any other means to take care of themselves. For the past six months, it's been a hard time for me trying to fend for myself since no money comes from home. The same is the plight of many others too. Occasionally I write here to share my thoughts with others here and also to earn money too.
For the average Nigerian, life is so hard. Everything you see is now costly and you need to pay high prices to obtain them. Necessities of life such as food, housing, and clothing aren't available for everyone again. Only affordable for those who get the purchasing power. There is an increase in crime rates and unemployment increases. One of my friends was telling me how hard it will be to live as a graduate in a dysfunctional country. Well, I believed getting lucrative skills as an individual will help a lot financially. The government jobs can not go around and people have to find another means of earning.
There are many digital skills out there that can be learned which provide a stable and sustainable source of income.
The Government and the body of lecturers are still negotiating on calling off the industrial strike. As for me, I don't feel like going back to school anymore. because we have been deceived by both parties with empty promises of calling off the strike which has not been fulfilled all this while. I just want to learn about web designing and many other skills out there that can boost my income. Nevertheless, I hope everything comes back to normal and we resume back to school after a long time because I missed my friends and school in general so much.
Even if the system fails us, education is still a weapon to change the world
