When Assumption meets Disappointment

“Thou shalt not assume,” as we popularly inject onto our minds whenever talking about things with less hope. What does such tell us? They give a warning that they may just trigger worse emotional problems. Yet, though it is already knowable, we still do not lose that last piece of hope that our assumption may lead to happiness. I thought having an attitude of being assuming could never be included in my vocabulary. But, of course! I never resorted to chasing after unrealistic options. What for when they could just drive me either to pleasure or disappointment? There’s no assurance. But the game-lover fate captured me. As I lived in its existence, assumption encompassed me. My friends just loved to assume. Whenever they were given special treatment by somebody, they couldn’t stop themselves from telling us about it us. I didn’t get annoyed, though. I loved it that they were enjoying that somebody’s company, and every little thing that person would do. It’s that I got happy, too, for them. But I never wanted to assume. I wasn’t like my friends. It was too easy for them to capture who they wanted to be with. They would receive phone calls, gifts, etc. But for me, I found myself focusing on my career a lot better and worthier than paying time with nonsense things. But how did I come up with such a principle? I was hurt once. And that once was already enough. I supposed that I was already on the way to making a love story, my first love story. It all started when a transferee became my classmate. Just a nobody, I thought at first. I would get annoyed when our eyes met, I wasn’t sure why. But one unexpected moment came, that somebody’s lips landed on my cheeks. I couldn’t remember how I reacted that time. I don’t know if I was happy or if we had a quarrel. But that’s how I started to fall in love. I didn’t want to assume, but I gave it a try. We became good friends, or better. On summer days, we would play in the school, and whenever we decided to watch a movie at the house of another friend, we would sit together on a single chair and would hold each other’s hands as we headed back to our respective homes. It was total bliss! I could still remember we were at the park acting as if we were in a romantic relationship. We were both happy seeing each other, I presumed. I thought we would be together for a long time, forever. Our Graduation Day came, and we took our different chosen paths. No communication did exist between us, but I ignored it. I endured every moment that passed without the sight of the person I loved so much. I assumed that everything would be great in the end, like I know that somebody was feeling the same. We had to endure things. Finally, we saw each other on a vacation together with other classmates. I decided to confess my feelings, for I believed we were feeling the same. “I love you. You love me too, right?” A smile came from my lips as I was saying it, waiting for an expected reply. And I got a, “What a joke! You almost got me. I know you won’t fall in love with me, just as I won’t fall for you. We’re good friends, eh?” I sounded hilarious, so I just laughed and replied with: “Of course! I thought you’d fall on my joke.” I couldn’t accept at first that I was just imagining things, everything was an assumption. Disappointment didn’t hesitate to catch me. The memories are quite so fresh to me. I can still remember how my heart was being torn at that time. But life must go on. I don’t want to assume anymore, I hope being assuming won’t come back to me anymore. I hate to admit this, but as I was narrating everything that happened, “Tamang Panahon” by Wynn Andrada was on the radio followed by “This song is for you” by Erik Santos and “Alaala” by Yeng Constantino. Fate is teasing me again. Thank you everyone 👇👇👇👇👇👇👇👇
