When I was still in middle school, there was never a day that my mom won't nag at me. It's because she always follows my mess and every time she enters my room, the decorative mess is what she always sees. Some of my clean clothes are mixed up with those used clothes. I feel like cleaning is not in my daily routine. I don't know if it's just me but I don't feel uncomfortable in my messy room. Not until I realized the importance of cleanliness and being organized.
Being organized is being in control. Self-discipline is needed to be organized. So here are some points I would like to share with you to practice being organized.
# 1. STOP PROCRASTINATING
Do not forget the saying that goes, "DO NOT PUT OFF UNTIL TOMORROW WHAT CAN BE DONE TODAY." Do not delay things if you can accomplish or finish them today. Do not wait for tomorrow, because there will be another thing to do the next day. If you keep on procrastinating, you will end up delaying it every day and tomorrow never comes. When you're near the deadline, cramming is the next thing you think about and let me tell you this because I am a great procrastinator before, and cramming outputs are the worst.
#2. GET THINGS THEIR OWN HOME
Like you have your own room for your personal space, you should also think about the objects you own. For convenience, it is better to put them in a specific part where you can find them easily. For example, your books should be on bookshelves, your undies should be separated from your shirts. There should be a separate drawer of it in your wardrobe. In that manner, you will not waste your time looking for your things.
#3. JUST KEEP WHAT YOU NEED
The things you own end up owning you thus keep the essential things only. You can give or donate the things you no longer need or you can liquidate them to get some money. There is a saying that goes, "The root of suffering is attachment," thus, don't try to embrace the things that you don't need it will just take up space in your room and time from you in cleaning them.
#4. USE CONTAINERS
The things that are not used very often should be put in see-through containers. This will not only make your house clean but also help you find them easily when you need them. Labeling also is important for easy access to the things you keep.
#5. DECLUTTER REGULARLY
You never know what you have until you clean your room. No matter how busy you are, you should find time to declutter your house at least once a week. The long-lost pair of your sock might just be under your bed or the remote control of your television might be under your couch. So check it yourself.
#6. START YOUR DAY RIGHT AWAY
Without hard work, nothing grows but weeds, hence, you should start your day right away when you wake up in the morning. Have something for breakfast, and start doing exactly what you need to do. Do not waste your time in bed scrolling your phone or doing unnecessary things.
#7. PUT THINGS BACK INSTANTLY
If you take out a pen from a pen vase to write a letter, put it back when you have finished writing. Do not leave it where it is most convenient. Worst things or accidents could happen if you leave the things you used in where you used them.
#8. AVOID BEING A WEEKEND WARRIOR
Don't leave your house messy and clean it up on weekend. Tidying up everything on weekend will make you exhausted. If you are a weekend warrior, you will miss your chances to relax and hang out with your friends or family members.
Being organized isn't about getting rid of everything you own or trying to become a different person; it's about living the way you want to live, but better.
