There are no 'easy' tasks when it comes to Blue-collar jobs, specially working in a convenience store that requires manual labor, extra ordinary patience and good multitasking skills in a fast paced environment.
Froge will share his bad experience one-by-one working in a hectic place called convenience store:
Rude Customers
If Karens existed in United States, then Philippines also have their own breed called Marites, similar to Karens.. they are self entitled, Prideful and the main character of their own delusional world.
As a Sales Area Maintenance worker, encountering one needs huge amount of tactfulness, patience and best effort to serve them right.. but when it comes to worst case scenario, Marites usually never appreciated this and will start a commotion out of nowhere, so you also need a good reasoning skills and your Manager's phone number.
Receiving Deliveries
The Graveyard Shift (night duty) is usually the one incharge receiving the deliveries, we often receives piled up parcels/break cases and full cases which is 'not' our favorite.. after receiving it is you need to itemize EACH items inside those parcels/break cases. ( HABA/Health and Beauty Product is one of the most tiring part in itemizing, since there were a lots of products for women ) The average time to complete this job is usually 3-4 hours.
There were instances the Delivery will arrived at 5 1/2 in the morning ( meanwhile our time out is 6) and you'll be forced to extend your shift.
No Overtime
Extended work hours must be paid by the Employers right? Well simply speaking, our Manning Agency don't.
No Security
Imagine working in night WITHOUT a Security Guard, you would be naturally worried and wished there will be no robbers aiming the store. And the dumb reason why the Agency provide one is to "Save Budget" or whatsoever.. do they even care about their Employee's Security??
Lazy Co-workers
Teamwork is strongly necessary in manual labor, but what if you have a 'passive' and 'easy-go-lucky' co-workers who usually hides at the backroom to slack off? Well that would be a problem..
Straight Duties / Forced to work for another 8 hours (total of 16 HOURS in a day)
In a convenience store who is open 24/7 have a standard shift which is split into 3 (8 hours per shift).
Morning Shift - 6 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Swing Shift - 2 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Graveyard Shift - 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.
..and vice versa..
And there were instances, where your reliever who is supposed to take over after your shift will suddenly goes absent for dumb reasons, and you have no choice but to EXTEND another 8 HOURS to compensate their laziness, (this always happens usual 4 times per month.. it depends how 'lazy' the co-worker is.
Teaching arrogant trainees
I am the one in-charge training newbies in the store, and i often encounters cocky trainees, who have this "know-it-all" vibe and never sticks to standard procedures and always messes up. It always make my BrainCells slowly degrading..
The conclusion is simple, don't work at any convenience store specially in a volumed one (where customers non-stop swarms inside 24/7)
..but if you find a 'quiet' and 'peaceful' Store, then go for it! But of course there were also the 'Positive' sides when working in a Convenience Stores, I'll enumerate them one-by-one in the next article.
Thank you for spending your time reading this and God Bless..
