The Benefit of Right Standards
By having a standard for measuring the new information presented, you can achieve balanced thinking. Therefore, an individual controls what comes to his mind and is not distracted from achieving his goal, but does not close new valuable information.
Again, a Christian has a source of great help. As? He has the Bible as a sure guide for his thinking. On the one hand, your mind is "open" - that is, receptive to new information from virtually all human realms, including art and science. Properly weight the new information against your biblical standard and adapt your thinking pattern. On the other hand, your brain is "closed" to information that is completely incompatible with your Bible-based goals; it can be rejected because it does not deserve further attention.
Every day, the clear-thinking person must filter or protect what is wrong and what his mind is properly "closed". The constant bombardment of propaganda by the public press, newspapers and magazines, as well as books, television and radio programs, makes this more important now than ever.
Of course, much of what is published today is immediately unworthy of our attention. These include novels, plays, or television programs, such as those glorifying sexual perversion, immorality or violence. By taking care of the basic desire, its purpose is usually to discourage useful thinking, to really numb the mind in favor of an unthinkable passion.
But books and programs from which useful information are obtained also require caution. They often subtly reveal an erroneous thinking trend, perhaps influenced by unproven theories such as evolution. Therefore, some publications on childcare, history, science, archeology, medicine, psychology, elementary school textbooks, and even some of the so-called biblical reference materials, suggest or assume that evolution is a "fact" when they are discussed. its various themes. Here above all, the "open-minded" person must be careful in reading whether to avoid being negatively influenced or, as some defenders of an incorrect doctrine of the last century have described, becoming "mentally ill".
