Subhas Chandra Bose was a revolutionary who fought against the British rule in India during World War II. Honored as Netaji or Respected Leader, he led the Indian National Army and became the Congress President in 1938 and 1939. On 18 August 1945, he died from third-degree burns after a plane crash in Taihoku, present-day Taipei. ⠀
⠀
While many admired Bose, he was one of the most controversial political leaders in India as he sought support from Nazi Germany and the Empire of Japan. Many of his followers refused to believe his death and insisted that he was still alive. Several legends and conspiracies appeared following his death like he was living in the northern part of India, or that he was imprisoned in the Soviet Union or the People’s Republic of China. ⠀
⠀
Authorities conducted numerous investigations on the death or disappearance of Bose. The majority of the investigations and interviews confirmed his death in 1945. ⠀
