Love on social media

In this times, the wave of social media is every where. The entire world, the youths especially, is being diverted from focusing on the essence of life, worshiping Allah (SWT) at all times. There are some youths who select their partners on the Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp, Instagram etc. Their faith in such selection is unwavering. How did they meet each other? Could it be by mere chatting? What do they know of each other? Could it be through posted pictures and other unprintable words? How did they really fall in love with each other? Could it be by mere sighting the person’s photograph? How do they make the proposal? Could it by mere chatting and sending words of proposal and acceptance? Or do they agree to meet each other and seal the deal?

If you want a man who will hug you amorously without respect for your moral dignity; if you want a guy who will cuddle you like a chick without concern for your womanhood; if you want a man who will pin you to any corner like a glue in the name of love without regard for your virginity; if you want a man who will without meeting you date and have no value for your humanity; then the Facebook and other social media platforms could be an avenue for that kind of adventure.

Which one do you think is better - a lover you met casually, or a lover you met on the road, or a lover you met at a party, or a lover you met on social media, or a lover you met at the mosque? If you are a Facebook lover, there are some questions which bother on reasonability. Are you really intelligent to have fallen in love with a person you met on Facebook? You definitely lack a true judgment power! How could a decent girl start to exchange addresses and other personal information with a man she has never met before? How could she believe in the posted pictures or mails? Why would she fix an appointment with such a person or agree to meet him at an appointed place? What kind of love is that? Those who even date or get married to spouses they are well acquainted with still face some challenges, not to talk of the unknown!

Our teenagers or young undergraduates are at the crossroads. They want to belong to their generation where laxity and blind imitation is the norm. They are seemingly unfortunate or should I say unlucky to have been born into a generation of speed in all ramifications. This same speed they want to apply to marriage. They contrive ideas of love. They hunt the lover of their choices wherever they may be. The parents are kept in the dark. They never know what is going on until the deal has been almost irreversibly sealed!

What a disaster.
