Rights
The emergence of
Bangladesh as an
independent state was
the result of a fight
against violation of
human rights in different
ways. People’s struggle
for establishing
fundamental rights is
always there in different
parts of the world. But
unfortunately the barriers
to human rights are yet
to overcome. Human
rights are rights inherent
in all human beings
whatever their identities
are. The basic human
rights are their social
rights, civil rights,
political rights, cultural
rights, religious rights,
economic rights etc.
Each country assumes
obligations and duties to
protect and fulfill human
rights. Despite enough
potential for progress,
our country is still faced
with abject poverty and
illiteracy. These two are
perhaps the most
powerful enemies of
human rights. So, most
people are not able to
think and speak freely.
People need freedom to
exercise their rights. It is
the people who are
neglected elements in the
established politics and
socio-economic activities.
Yet there is ample scope
for improvement in the
status of human rights.
