Don't be redundant. Whatever your hand finds to do, do it! Get a skill. Get knowledge for knowledge is power. Learn, unlearn and relearn as many times as you need to.
So, I'll be explaining some of the skills listed above for a better understanding.
Hairdressing: This is the art of washing, retouching, setting, plaiting and making one's hair beautifully. You can make your hair in braids, twists, weaving and fixing weavons. A person who does this is called a hairdresser. Perhaps you have a younger sister, why not practice with her hair. And if you don't, get a doll. Just like me, I learnt how to plait hair through my mom 'cos anytime she is plaiting my sister's hair, she'd ask me to finish the tip either by braiding or twisting it. As time went by, I was able to make my sister's hair all by myself and then my cousins and neighbours started coming. You can also learn this skill-hairdressing from a professional. Get trained under such person. And if it's watching videos on YouTube that works for you, fine.
Bead making:This involves connecting beads both big and small to form a pattern or design. Beads can be used to make bags in different sizes, necklace/chain, wrist chains, ankle chains, waist chains, crown, ring amongst others. Here, the major equipment needed are beads, needle, fishing line, elastic, hook, stopper, cutter etc.
Beads in Nigeria have different purposes. That is, people wear beads for a reason. It is used to signify chieftaincy and kingship. In case you've come across a man wearing big beads in broad daylight, it means he is from a royal family. Wearing of beads is also commonly used in the Eastern part of Nigeria like among the Igbos, Efik and the Calabars.
I also know how to make beads, still learning though. The only thing with this skill is that it is time consuming. You have to dedicate hours and sometimes days to complete the bead but, at the end, it will be worth your effort. Have you heard of Abuja connection, spiral, dragon, layers or bush? These are very beautiful styles. In case you have interest in bead making, don't sleep on it.
Embroidery: This is the making beautiful a fabric through needlework. Talent is needed here.
Fashion design/tailoring:A fashion design does the work of fashion designing. He/she sews, amends or stitch fabrics according to the consumer's taste. Here, the tailor takes measurement of his/customer to get a nice fitting and result. The work of a tailor is far greater than this. This is just to give you an idea of what you might have signed up for. The major things you need as a tailor are needle, thread(s), a sewing machine,a weaving machine, a notebook, a biro and a tape rule. You can create and recreate styles you like by being creative, trained and practicing every single thing learnt for mastery.
Photography : This is the art of taking photos often and professionally with devices like a phone or a camera as well as editing those pictures on photo shop.
Conclusion
Make sure you are not idle. Help your parents and siblings in any way you can. Don't be a liability.
