What Time Would You Like To Live In?
If you had the chance, which time would you like to live in the past?
Would you rather watch one of Shakespeare's plays live, travel the world with hippies in the 1960s, or accompany Michelangelo while he sculpts in the 15th century?
Or would you like to return to any time?
The answer to this question is usually yes. Everyone wants to go back to a time in the past that they thought was great and live in those times.
Around you, there is at least 1 person who says that my style is exactly 1930s America or 1950s French, I do not belong to this time.
Whoever we ask around says that the time we live in right now is the worst time in history and we are the most unfortunate people. The only thing is that people who think like this are very wrong. The time we are in right now is the best time to live in 200000 years of human history and 6000 years of civilization history.
Statistics say that, not me. First of all, humans are living longer now. 100 years ago the average life expectancy on earth was 30 years. Only 30 years. Can you imagine? Currently, the average life expectancy is 71 years. So people live an average of 41 years longer, which is only true for 100 years ago. The situation is even worse, especially in ancient times. Many babies who were born died before they even saw their childhood years. Secondly, which may sound a little strange to you, the world is a much safer place right now. Some of us have laughed. Because this information is not given by newspapers, televisions, Twitter, Facebook. Wherever we look, disaster scenarios. The media does not stay away from touting the apocalypse. epidemics, hunger, terrorism… We think the world is about to end, but it is not like that at all. Namely, for most of human history, 15 percent of the population was already dying in wars or for other reasons.
On the other hand, we are much smarter than people who have lived in transition. According to IQ tests done in the 1950s, the average human intelligence was 100 points. Today, this score is at 118. According to the media, democracy is slipping away from us. However, in 1900, there were only 10 countries in the world that were governed by democracy. Today, there are 90 countries and this number is increasing. In the 1700s, all the information that a person could access throughout his life was at a level that could not fill even a newspaper we read today.
We have too many reasons to feel lucky that we cannot explain with statistics alone. Consider the French Revolution. We read about it in books, but imagine living this revolution. Imagine thousands of people being guillotined and you are one of them. If you think that there is no justice in the world today, you may be wrong because there have been periods in history when torture and executions were very common and carried out in the form of public demonstrations. Can you imagine watching a little boy hang in the square?
You could have to walk for months to go to another city. In 1900, no woman in the world had the right to vote and be elected. Today, there are 180 countries. Just 20 years ago, Google didn't exist. Can you imagine a world without my Google maps and Google search engine?
So, why do we not see all this information in the media on a daily basis, why do the media and governments not want us to get rid of our fears by telling us about all these developments, why you can die every day, disease everywhere, terrorists are crawling into our eyes?
Because they don't want us to relax. Because since the creation of man, he is ready to take action against danger, negativity and threats, especially with the influence of the survival instinct from ancient times. If you give 100 good news and one bad news to a person, he will only care about the bad news. He can quickly forget other good news.
Their purpose is to make us afraid, because our fear benefits those who want to rule us. It can be much easier to sell products to a fearful society, and to manage and direct a fearful society. That's why I think it's time to get rid of your fears by internalizing this information and spreading this information. Remind yourself of this every day.
Live bravely, die happy...
I absolutely agree with the statistics and I believe that this time is much safer and provides more opportunities for a beautiful and quality life. Although my favorite period is the ’80s. 😊 I feel like I belong there and I wish I was in that period now. It’s just some nostalgic feeling but I believe the time we live in is the best.
