Internet Is Feeding Our Demons
Have you noticed that this generation produces a lot of sick minded people? Like many are being depress, getting drown with depression etc etc. What does the major influence causing this situation nowadays?
In my opinion it's due to the internet. Most of the people now are entangled with internet. Some using internet due to their jobs or side hustle while some are for entertainment purposes. However, while people are being entertain using internet it feeds their mind whatever they are into without them knowing.
For example you are fan of watching vlogs about certain things, it will change your perspective or you will discover new perspective in life. Just like me, I am fond of watching home workout these days and it totally changes my perspective. Right now I badly want to build my body when I don't have that urge way back. Although I do home workout out since then but it's on and off, unlike these days I am so obsessed of wanting to see a result or transformation over my body.
Going back, this generation produces sick minded people due to the internet feeding their minds especially the young ones (Gen Z). Seeing other people's lives getting better and better in social media awakens insecurities or inferiority. Or having great body figures, beauty standards, educational background, good grades, good relationships and etc. You'll start comparing or start looking down on yourself . It will then results anxiety and stress, then later on depression.
This is why being selective on what you watch or listen is important as it will cause changes when it starts influencing you. If it influences you in a good way then it is good, however if it awakens your insecurity that's the time you should redirect your path so you won't self diagnosing yourself as depress.
There are a lot of influencers in social media right now saying “It's okay to be sad, it's okay not to be okay. You have the right over your emotions, own it. Blah blah blah.” Yes it is correct, but it should not linger on you for a long time. Being sad for a long time is not healthy, whatever we are going through we have to fight and redirect ourselves. Lingering on an emotion is the beginning of creating your own demon. So you must be selective on whom you listen to. We are born to fight not just hide in a corner and build walls. Building walls does not help at all, it will only isolate you and let you feel the pain over and over again.
Some are ranting that giving positive thoughts or motivation on a depressive person is toxic positivity. It may be during the early days of encountering setbacks, one should just listen instead of preaching. However, if it's already too long, I think the person needs to be preach. Preaching someone you care is like helping a fallen brothers and sisters to redirect their path instead of just letting them be depressed for a century and do horrible things especially hurting themselves. Preach in a nice way though, coz some people hates comparison.
Remember, whatever you feed your mind will always be the outcome of your behavior. We should stop seeking validations in the internet coz it will only drag us down. If you're certain that you are mentally unstable and can't handle it on your own, call out on your most trusted people. Or seek help with professionals, stop self diagnosing and owning depression, it is not a joke!
