Return all Glory to God
*KEY VERSE:*
"And Jesus said to him, “See that you tell no one; but go your way, show yourself to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses commanded, as a testimony to them” (Matt 8:4, NKJV).
After giving a leper instant healing, the Lord said to him: "See that you tell no one..." (Matt 8:4). In this and other places (cf. Matt 9:30; 12:16; Luke 4:41; 8:56), the Lord was careful to return all the glory to God. In spite of all the mighty miraculous manifestations that characterized His ministry, the Lord neither blew His own trumpet nor allowed others to do that for Him. And with that, He demonstrated to us the necessity of ensuring that ALL THE GLORY is returned to God. It is not about anyone of us, but all about Him.
Satan has a subtle way of turning that which most people thought was meant to publish the greatness of our God into a tool subtly fashioned to glorify mere mortal. Often, when people testify of the mighty things God did for them through us, we tend to be seen as the "All-Powerful Oracle" that was instrumental for such great acts. And subtly, the people are made to shift their faith from God to a mere mortal, who knows nothing about where the air he or she breathes is coming from.
The Lord commanded people not to talk about those awesome deeds He wrought for them, so as not draw undue attention to Himself. Probably, such undue attention would have thwarted and frustrated His purpose. But ours is a generation that relishes attention and good public opinion, due or undue. It’s a generation that insists that testimony of great deeds must be talked about – not necessarily to give glory to God, but to make known the “awesome” human being behind the “great” occurrence.
God does not share His glory with anybody. Let’s distant ourselves from such strange practice; for God will not hold the guilty guiltless. Be careful to return all glory to God.
*CONTROLLING THOUGHT:*
Returning All Glory to God in everything means we honor Him in our thoughts and actions.
