Should We Picture Social Media Influencer as a Role Model?
This is a kind of controversial issue that most of us are curious about. As the days come, social media influencers become more and more as viral trend makes another name in the hype. They become a content creator, then evolves viral. After millions of views in their videos, they claim to be social media influencers. Still, things are happening. Are they actual models?
It's been a week that these topics are in my notes, I ignored the content of context, but I never forgot that there was Sunday on the discord channel where @Jijisaur hosted a talk where the topics were all about controversial issues.
I did take down notes there topic and some opinions that I saw interesting that other people had said. One of the controversial she said is, "Social Media Influencers as a role model?".
Nowadays, it's easy to become a celebrity, unlike before when there were enormous criteria for being an idol that is visible on the television as they need to be well presented and have some beauty over personalities. They need to pose a look that might see the viewer as the goddess or godly, personality matters. In my early, there were some issues that the artist had been canceled for the harsh attitude.
Nowadays, things are changing day by day. People who claimed social media influencers didn't have to look well or have a good attitude. They are the most viewed people on the internet.
Maybe from their physical appearance (other good-looking make-up videos, funny personalities, and all the things that could be seen as genuine. Even the wording that tells profanity, some people look at it as great acceptance, others laugh at them. Moreover, these people from social media become visible in people's eyes, especially younger generations.
Still, there are bad and good sides to thinking and embracing that social media influencers are assets in role models for young generations.
According to Indeed Editorial Team (2020), Social media influencers gained the popularity and trust of viewers online. They might be the early adopter of some trends, innovators, and experts on what they were doing.
Nano influencer
Micro influencer
Macro influencer
Mega influencers.
I will try to focus on what I think and hear claiming influencers in the Philippines with that I am familiar.
They said that influencers are content creators, and we are content creators who build and write blogs, are we considered influencers? The answer is YES. We are also part of the bracket of being social media influencers, and we write and let others read our blog and article. We are under the Nano influencer, with 1000 or lower followers. Others also have more than a thousand more they become Micro-Influencers. (But depending on the audience and readers, I think we still count as Nano influencers).
Micro-Influencers are those having subscribers or followers of 1k-50K people. These are also considered rising stars. Most of these influencers are starters in Vlogging or whatever niche they were doing to their blog.
Macro Influencers or those having 50K-Million followers also are well-known people in the media industry. These are the prankers or those still starting to make their name on social media.
Mega Influencers, or those people with huge followers or millions, are the celebrities or politicians that are well known. They are what we call the prominent eyes of the endorsement.
So we cannot argue when people that reach a million followers become rich instantly. The views and length of hours are monetizing them. They have been watched. As they want to grow their audience, they have this idea of being influencers or a role model.
There are numerous cases and issues about celebrities who never think clearly about endorsing a product. Because of fame and the money they could get from the sponsorship, they never think about the safety of people. When influencers feel like more and more followers are getting curious about why they look more white or sexy, they begin o endorse products, saying their testimony.
Another thing is that some creator uses profanity course so much, blessing it to the normal side of their mouth. Teenagers quickly adopt, especially in the gamers streamers, where they lose the game they were showing aggressiveness. This is kind of funny to others, but in some people, it causes more to think it is legal and customary.
There are decent influencers and motivational, yet I think they are not so much seen by people looking for more genre that suits their moods. Some are nudity, and others are profanity.
I think we adults also know about these issues. Some claimed that social media influencers are not the best name influencers.
Depende rin siguro. Wala akong tinitingnan na 100% role model kasi lahat naman may nagagawang mali. Pero minsan ganito ako, I like Andi Eigenmann sa way ng parenting nya. Situational sya, but not totally sila ang role model ko. Hehe
