The reason why we act the way we do is solely dependent on our temperament. It defines our person and how we behave. It is embedded in us and comes as gift packs.

Temperament is the combination of traits we inherited from our parents. Its a person's temperament that makes him outgoing and extroverted or shy and introverted.

As awful as it might sound, temperament is not the only influence upon our behavior. Home training, education influences our actions in life. The alignment of temperament is just as unpredictable as the colour of our eyes, hairs, or size of body.

Temperament determines your character. Character is a result of temperament modified by home training, beliefs, principles and environmental factors.

So far, i have read of four major temperaments in existence.

  • Sanguine

  • Choleric

  • Melancholy

  • Phlegmatic

Sanguine

Sanguine:lively

Oh how i love this temperament though it has its weaknesses. Sanguines are very receptive and easy responds to external impressions.

They are(Strength):

  • Lively

  • Outgoing

  • Fun to be with

  • Storytellers

  • Friendly

  • Noisy

  • Confident

  • Full of energy

That one friend that always lights up the room, no dull moments when she's around. That's a sanguine, she's an extrovert and tends to have energy which she spreads.

Weakness:

  • Emotionally unstable

  • Unproductive

  • Very undisciplined

  • Egocentric

  • Exaggerates a lot

Choleric

Choleric-self sufficient

Do not mind the look on his face, because cholerics are active, strong willed and very independent. A choleric is a less of an extrovert when compared to a sanguine.

A choleric can be a leader because he is strong willed and he's not influenced by others.

Strengths:

  • Goal oriented

  • Dogged will

  • Practical

  • Independent

  • Extroverted (less)

  • Works under pressure

  • Hardworking

Weakness:

  • Domineering

  • Unforgiving

  • Sarcastic

  • Cruel

  • Always angry

  • Unemotional

Melancholy

Melancholy-introvert

Melancholy is claimed to be the richest temperament, because his strengths and weaknesses are numerous. By nature, he is prone to be an introvert, but since his feelings predominate, he's given to a variety of moods. The opposite of sanguine, because he hardly makes friends, he depends on other temperament to be perfect.

Strengths

  • Exceptional analytical ability

  • Perfectionist

  • Gifted in fine arts

  • Self sacrificing

  • Sensitive

  • Discernment ability

  • Faithful friend

Weakness:

  • Moody

  • Revengeful

  • Touchy

  • Unsocial

  • Self centered

Phlegmatic

Phlegmatic -Calm

The Phlegs are the never-get-upset kind of people. It takes a lot to get them pissed off. The easiest people you can relate with all year round.

They tend to be the most likable of all the temperaments, surprisingly, because their mood does not fluctuate. Even if it does, it takes a high threshold to see them in that state.

Strengths:

  • Easy going

  • Likable personality

  • Never hot tempered

  • Humorous

  • Calm

Weakness:

  • Selfish

  • Stingy

  • Self protective

  • Indecisive

  • Procrastinator

Which one are you.

There persons with mixture of two temperaments. Each temperament comes with its strength and weaknesses, which explains that no one is perfect.

It is left for us to blend the two together and make our lives a wonderful place to be.
