Stage fright is an event that has occurred at some point in everyone's life. It happens when one is put on edge or being anxious while giving speeches, delivering pet talks in family meetings, seminars, webinars and even while performing as an artist. Judging from how i have treaded this road. Trust me, it is not an easy road but then you're not alone.
It comes in different packages, shaky voices, cracky voices, panic attacks, disorientation, audible heartbeats, cold feets and hands and so on.
Prior to performance day, the "stage freightend performer" is carried away by delusional thoughts. Thoughts how they will be ridiculed and made fun of by the audience. These thoughts mess up the confidence the performer had already built.
I have read tons of books, watched a whole lot of youtube videos on stage fright but none seem to have the exact answers why people have stage fright. A lot of ideas and a million thoughts are available as to what causes stage fright.
Stage fright can be imagined to be the everyday shyness faced by shy people, though they make make fantasies about how great they will perform in front of an audience. The fantasies end up flopping in reality, when they meet the actualization of those fantasies in real life. That is coming face to face with the audience, the feelings that come with it and their response.
Stage Fright is mind controlled. It is always all up in your head. An illusion that everyone is watching, the audience doesn't like you, high hopes and expectations from the audience.
Books say a lot about being prepared and knowing your onions but that doesn't guarantee that your going to deliver a bomb presentation. In fact writers try their best to write on stage fright, but the always miss out the point that stage fright is individual dependent.
That youtuber goings on and about you looking up straight at the heads of the audience in order to overcome stage fright. This works for some people, but as long as you don't get the basics right, then stage fright is going to pull up at your door step.
In my theory i realised that all these don't matter. What matters most is how you see yourself. It begins with your self conceit, vain pride and high self esteem. It begins with the mind and what you feed it with. Guard your mind like your life depends on it. Feed it positively, think good about yourself and that will keep you away from worrying about what the audience might have to say about the performance.
Remember, there are no gimmicks or short cuts to this. Remember on the road to success there's no room for self doubt, and self doubt gives room for stage frights.
