📜Neither shall he multiply wives to himself, that his heart turns not away: neither shall he greatly multiply to himself silver and gold *Deuteronomy 17:17 (ASV)*
📋There is an aspect of the life of our rulers and leaders today worthy of note—It is very common for people in power or in public office to use their power to amass wealth far beyond what they need, at the expense of the poor. Our text says, “the king of Israel should be a God fearing person who will not gather a harem of wives, neither should he amass a lot of gold and silver for himself.” Sadly, we have become so greedy such that we compete for public offices for selfish motives. The worst of it is in the church where God’s people are supposed to share their lives with each other in the community. In 1 Kings 11, Solomon married 700 princesses and had 300 concubines and we were told he had only golden objects in his house and had many horses and chariots. Solomon loved God but drifted in lust for women and wealth. As disciples of Jesus, we must take note of Deuteronomy 17; so that whenever God entrusts us with some advantage of position of power, we must do so in the fear of God. How are you handling your gifts and talent? How do you use power which God has given you? Remember, the Lord calls you to be modest in all your ways.
