📜After sometime Paul said to Barnabas, ‘Let’s return to each city where we previously preached the word of the Lord to see how the new believers are getting along’. Barnabas agreed and wanted to take along John Mark. But Paul disagreed strongly since John Mark deserted them in Pamphilia… *Acts 15:36-38 (NLT)*
📋During Paul’s first missionary journey, John Mark (author of the gospel of Mark) deserted Paul and Barnabas and returned to Jerusalem (Acts 13:13). Generally, the tendency in business and the work of ministry is to entrust responsibilities to those who are capable. Sometimes such people can fail you. This was the case with Mark who disappointed Paul hence was rejected for the second missionary journey. Paul considered Mark as unreliable, thus it was unwise to take him. The disagreement led to formation of two teams: Paul with Silas and Barnabas with Mark, thus opening up two missionary endeavours. Somehow Barnabas and Mark do not appear again in the book of Acts, though mentioned in some epistles, still used by God (Colossians 4:10). To resolve problems among them Christians must be ready to agree to disagree as God works out his will. How’s your follow-through? Are you like Paul (who could always be counted on) or Mark (who deserted the cause before it was finished)? Seek to follow through on your commitments and God will not only help you become more dependable, but will also forgive your mistakes.
