Because Covid-19 was not the only terrible evil of the year 2020.

Infections such as HIV, tuberculosis, hepatitis, malaria, polyparasitosis and sexually transmitted infections, killed more than 4 million people in 2020; added to this, diseases that are prevented by vaccination such as measles and lechina, have also caused deaths; there were also cases of polio that is almost eradicated with the vaccine and in 2020 there were more cases than since 2014.

And this is the majority, in poor people.

What are we doing wrong?

Why don't preventive health programs reach everyone?

Why are there areas where the rulers do not prioritize in access routes for medicines and medical aid to reach as happens in Central Africa?

Why are there increases in morbidity, malnutrition and mortality in oil producing countries such as Venezuela, with a large gap between its inhabitants, that is, between a very small but very rich minority, in relation to the vast majority who are very poor, almost destitute?

Why is it that there are entire villages in many parts of the world where it is not known that diarrhea is preventable by drinking boiled water and washing food, or that using mosquito nets prevents malaria, despite the existence of the internet where news of an event travels in seconds as it is happening?

What happened to us that we let entire villages exist without drinking water, electricity or sewage networks in a world where people spend years on space travel to explore other planets?

Covid-19 is not only the evil of 2020; we have a cancer of global imbalance that is killing us at an increasing rate; injustice rides on the backs of those who govern and lead us politically; selfishness and the desire to have more has completely blinded many who own large productive assets; a huge population lacks the means and energy to protest or simply is not allowed to do so.

How can we help from our individual position to solve these figures and realities that the UN itself exposes every year?

What would be the minimum contribution that I, as a socially functioning individual and part of a community, could make to stop this?

I firmly believe that the answer lies in our homes, in the education we can offer our children at a moral level; in the conscience we can form in them so that they understand that they are beings that belong to the global civilization, to a race that lives in a planet that must be respected; that they must collaborate in the collective growth or we will never be able to move forward in balance and equity, towards a world where everyone or the great majority, participate and enjoy it in a fair and inclusive way.

Maybe this is my cry and my whine today, but behind this concern and my own feelings, there are tears of loss in many parts of the planet, and it never, never hurts to remember that this is part of our reality and that we must simply be aware of it.

#Iamgrateful For the possibility that we all have to become aware that we exist as brothers, and that with proper education and teamwork as a race, each one of us can improve our quality of life in this beautiful world we inhabit.

Excellent reflection on what is really wrong and killing our society, more than any disease alone.
